are busy planning the next gardef .
e
idea behind the HCGP is..
simple; f. households each par
a share of a age, ganic garden's
ting cost in exch ge for. a
h in 1 yearly hvs t ....
"It's ' a Concept that es; the'
stress off the people- who produce
our food. Supporiarg of the.,garden
aro sharing in the risk as Nell as the
crop thereby assuring - , that the.
fanner is not exploited, not a mars
or to the cause of supplying tis
with the necessity of forst" :said
Pauli Sommer of Dungannon. a*
patron of the HCGP.
The project was organized in
February of x990 when David Par-
sons, a biodynamic gardener and
orc haurdist, presented the .concept of
a citimunity supported garden to a
midi ow. , of intereSted ci i ns.
The project's . garden coientl
located between Goderich b;and
Bayfield ori Concession Road 20,1t'
is on an 0 -acre parcel of lid
-Oby Bob and BOefirt
The location of -the garden may not
permanent.
For the first year of the pioject
there were 2-2 shareholders in.
F
.volved.
These people shared in a boun-
tiful

lb.; corn; 200 dozen; carrots, 3:
lbw;. sweet potatoes, 1,200 lb4;
:potatoes, 2,600 fb.; and cabbage
480 heads.
"The food definitely tastes better
when it is orgaunicall giowne, e
. vegeles were of a ` superior
quality and in excellent condition;"_
said Sommer. "David was also.le
to grow Japanese vegetables, sweet
potatoes, cantaloup and .water-
melon;;produce thatis not native to
the area, ii i sU OsJt 7. .
Some' added that community
supported agriculture addresses the
holistic health issue.
"Community supported agneulture
is for people do not want to have to
eat food that .has been :sprayed,
treated, irradiated, -trans forted,
stored and packaged:, said Sotanter,
"Consumers want t0. know mar the
agricultural movementisaddtesing
.the dangerous sigon that are
earth is in now."
The communitygarden °utilizes
chemical-fee agriculture • ::`4.on .;
feeding the soil not the plan. y,
recycling nutrients within the soil
that are beneficial to diellants the
so1 nurtures:' the plants flourish.
The .long term vision of the
shareholders is to have farm based
on cominunity'supported agriculture
which prodrs animals, gns
