Preliminary figures from county depar.tments point to a 28.1 per cent hike m the net coon!), levy; Gilbert said a single -digit =ease would be acceptable, but noted drastic cuts are needed if that goal is to be reached by final budget time next month. Reeve Brad Davis agreed with Mowry, saying the hiring freeze 'would really hurt" - the seniors' program.. Davis warned that without extra staff, the program is 'really in trouble" in the peninsula, Paisley and Kincardine areas, and may have to be curtailed. An effort to get the social ser- vices and homes committees exempte4 from the hiring freeze failed.
