The $80,000.00 study, funded by the hifinistry of Health, assesses the current mental health system as h relates to the direction set out in the earlier (1983) Grey -Bruce Plan, the recommendations contained in the "A Plan for Mental . Health in Ontario" (Graham Report) and the report of the Task Force on illegal Drug Use in Ontario (Black Report). The study has identified issues and gaps in the local service system and has proposed solutions for addressing these i s ee anti gaps. _--, The study proposes a comprehen- sive model for providing services to persons with mental health or sub- stance abuse problems. The model suggests that persons needing sucli services should be able to find assistance from one (or more) of four sectors; from formal mental. health andsubstanceabuse services; from general health and social services; from . those who have formed self-help groups; arid from informal caregivers such as families and friends. The study recommends the need for coordination amongst these sectors. Other recommenda- tions proposed include ways to assist self-help groups and family caregivers, as well as ways to enhance existing services, where required. Copies of the Discussion D u- ment have been circulated to a wide variety of providers and consumers. As well, copies will be placed in the reference sections of public libraries in Hanover, Walkerton, Kincardine, Markdale, Port Agin, Meaford, Wiarton and Owen Sound for anyone else who might wish to read and comment on the report. A series of community consultation meetings will also be held .during the month of February to obtain feedback on the Discussion Docu- ment and anyone interested in par- ticipating articipating in these meetings is. invited to attend one of the follow- ing: -Monday February 25, 1:00 4:00 p.m. Inn on the Bay Harbourview Room. Ripley curlers win four Two teams travelled to Vanastra on Feb. 11 to take part in the Tank- ard Zone Championship. Skips Ellen Holroyd and Joanne Stewart, vices Myra Walden and Marianne Irwin, seconds Barb Reid and Kim Coning and leads Jane Elliott and Carolyn Harris met Vanastra in the first game and St. Marys in the second and came away winners in all four games. Teams also came from Kincardine to participate but Ripley dominated and earned the right to go on to the regional championships in Elmira on Feb. 25. Congratulations and a wt brei On Feb. 16, the Montgomery Ford -Mahood Lumber sponsored bonspiel was held at the Ripley club. Brian and OU. Regier, Dale and Sandra Liddle won the Mahood r Lumber trophy in the first draw. John Elliott, Tom Reid, Larry Irwin, Robert Regier and Dan MacDonald led other teams in the competition for the trophy The Montgomery Ford trophy was won in the second draw by Ron Pollock, Pat Vanden Hogan, Elliott Courtney and Myra Walden. Hard fought battles were waged by skips Helen . Culbert, Mark Bowley, Ed Fink, Alex Stewart and Joanne Stewart.
