THE REAL ENEMY IN IRAQ
Saddam Hussein is unabashedly
called the most dangerous man in
the world and is compared to
Hitler. His proven willingness to
turn to dreaded chemical biological
weapons in a pinch adds fuel to the
hysteria.
For many Canadians and, Ameri-
cans who hardly recognized the
name a few months ago, Hussein
has turned overnight into a
demagog to be hated and feared.
The fear is not misplaced.
Hussein commands a million -man
army with high-tech weapons and
5,500 tanks, more than Hitler had
on the eve of the Nazi invasion of
Poland.
Usually only in renospect do -die
previous mistakes that lead to that
war become more obvious, Ernest
Hemingway who wrote much about
men and war said. during World
War that he "Hates war and hates
all the politicians whose misman
asmionf, cuggity, 'sinless and ambition brought on the
present war and made it inevitable."
Then there was Hitler, just as
there is. now Hussein the bad man
of the hour. But what mistakes,
what greed, and what stupidities on
our part have contributed to the
Middle East crisis getting so out of
hand?
Hussein's arsenall includes both
Soviet and American weapons for a
stmt. And certainly, Hussein is no
stranger to making war as a sol-
ution to his country's problems.
While he battled Iran, America
looked on and cheered from the
sidelines, even providing him mili-
tary intelligence.
,Barlier this year, President Bush
was asked at a press conference
what new enemy would take the
place of the Soviet Union. "Instabil-
ity," he said, making it clear there
would be no shortage of enemies.
America is seeking to protect its
sources of oil, but it is also for-
warding a clear-cut international
policy for the post -cold war area.
"If this Middle East war drags on
or escalates - with inflation and the
deep internal divisions this would
surely bring - we will be inflicting
more damage on ourselves- than

All modem wars were king* in'
the name of peace, justice and
human rights. Each side thinks they
are justified or right, no matter the
real truth, Going into a war such as
we now face, it is folly not to we-
ognize that wide -scale violence and
destruction is not the only way to
end any conflict of interest.
Acclaimed best-selling author L
Ron Hubbard writes in dianetics,
his classic manual on the human
mind, "There are no international
concerns which cannot be resolved
by peaceful means, not in the terms
of supernational government, but in
the terms of reason.
• "Jockeying with indefinable
ideologies, playing with mass ignor
ance, non existent entities like
nightmares march the world in the
form of the Gods of Ism.
"No self-interest can be so great
as to demand the slaughter of man-
kind. He who would demand it, he
who would not by every rational
means avert it, is insane. There is
no justification for war."
These words take on new mean-
ing when one realizes that dianetics
delineates not only the actual causes
of insanity, but also methods to
make it largely a thing of the past.

We were greeted by a small
group of young people playing
merangue music and immediately
I felt my blood start to pump and
my spirits lift.
As we waitedJAYA -- luggage to
unload, I found the ladies room,
grabbed a handful of paper towels
soaked in cold water and then
found an overhead fan to stand
under. The heat and humidity was
almost over powering.
The trip to jack Tar Village,
where we were, staying, was very
short and gave us a quick view of
the lush, tropical greenery we
would come to love during our
seven day stay.
Arriving at the village, we were
greeted by our Advent= Tour
hostess, Barbara, who is a
Canad'eni, but lives on die island
now. What a fantastic job she has!
Our accommodation was
superb - each small building con-
tained three separate suites, on
two levels, nestled in amongst
palm west with huge, beautiful
flower beds greeting yoi at Ow
enuonce. ThankfullY the rooms
were equipped with air con-
ditiomng and fans.
Dinner was being served on the
patio courtr,when we arrived. And
'what a dinner. The choices were
so numerous one really didn't
know where to start. From salads,
fresh fruit, hot dishes to desserts
there was something to please
everyone. Each dish was labelled
in Spanish and English mating it
easy to understand whatyou were
eating if you couldn't visually
identify- ite This rust meal was our
introduction to what would follow
for our next 21 meals. And guit
first evening was just a hint as to
the wonderful things that were in
store for us during .the next seven
days. There was only word to
describe it - a word that would be
repeated Ltz, all four of us ray
timet during the week - paradise!
Stay tuned for next week's
episode when Mr. Fixit really gets
into the swing of things!
