For Doug and Beatrice Ward and
family, of R., 5, LucknOw„ 1991
came in on an extremely happy
note. Their 24Lyear-old son, Tim
and his wife of one year, Naomi,
were home for a week's visit from
Victoria, British Columbia.
Tim is with the Canadian Navy,
stationed in Victoria and hadn't
seen his family in 18 months, and
Naomi had Weyer met her in-laws.
While the visit was an extremely
happy one for the family, there
were a few teats shed. Tim is
scheduled to leave March 4 for the,
Persian Gulf, along with the rest of
the crew from the destroyer Res-
tigouche. They will fly from Vic.
Ina to Thdifaxi then. on to the
a
Gulf, where they will replace the
crew on the Terra Nova. Tim said
that if a peaceful solution is found
to the Gulf crisis, he understood his
crew would still be going and
would act as a peace keeping mis-
sion.
;rim has been in the navy for
three years and was training as a
sonarman. In preparation for his
transfer to the Nova Terra he has,
in the past few month, taken a 50
calibre machine gun course and
training in searching for mines.
Further training will continue this
month when he returns to Victoria
(January 6).
Vor Naomi, who struggles to keep
a positive attitude and a miff upper
lip, being separated from her hus-
band will be quite an adjustment.
When they were first manied, Tim
was working on base and was home
every night. This past summer,
while on work -bps they were
separated for a few days at a time
only. Naomi is from Ottawa, and
although they have many friends,
both navy and civilian, she knows it
will be a long difficult five months.
Presently, Tim's crew is scheduled
to return home mid-September, by
which time he will be a daddy.
A former student of Kinloss and
Luclniow Public Schools and F.E.
Madill Secondary, Tim was able to
renew old. acquaintances New
Year's Eve, when they attended a
dance in Lucknow.
