A bridal shower was held at the home of Karen . and Liane Young for Pam Spring- er, bride-to-be, on Sunday afternoon. A large number of ladies attended and .Pam re- ceived many lovely presents. Ernie Hanna returned home after spending a .few days in Wingham Hospital. Mr. and Mrs.. Jim Young spent .Thursday " in Toronto where Jean attended a meet- ing. They also called on Mr. and Mrs. Donald. Young and family. •. Sunday visitors with Mrs. Clifford Young. 'and William were Mr. and !Wis. Donald Young andfamily of Thorn- hill •who also visited with Donald's father, Clifford Young in Wingham'Hospital.. Linda Young, Heather Brad- ley and Cheryl visited at the same home Sunday evening. Mr. and Mrs. Jerry Wilbur of Toronto spent last week at their stone house farm. 'Baby boy arrives By Lorraine McGuire Congratulations to : Mr. and Mrs. Russ O'Handley on the birth of a baby boy. Mr. and Mrs. Bill Bennett and family of London spent the weekend at their summer home here. • Jim Black visited°for a few days with David and Jana Black of Hamilton. The ladies of Unit 5 of the St'. Andrews U.C.W. group have been busy making quilts for the upcoming baz- aar on Saturday, October 30. Another quilting bee is scheduled for this Monday at the home of Mrs. Walter Black. • Ripley District School held their . commencement last Friday evening. Our congrat- ulations to all those receiving awards. Mr. and Mrs. Jack Mc- Guire and grandson, Christ- opher, were supper guests on Sunday .evening with. ME. and Mrs: Walter Black. Also visited with Walter and Mary was Len Vogan of Ripley. number of friends and neigh- bours had a surprise get-to- gether to help Ewan and Marj MacLean celebrate their twenty-fifth wedding anniversary. On Friday evening Charles and Mayme Wilkins, Herb and Marie Wilkins were dinner guests at the home of Jessie Alton of Lucknow be- fore Mrs. Alton leaves on her annual trip to Australia the end of the month. We would like to send our congratulations to Clarence and Elleda Irwin on the occasion of their fifty-sev- enth wedding anniversary on Thursday, October 22. We understand their wedding day was a real winter's day with a foot of snow on the ground, Congratulations Clarence and Elleda, and may you have many more years of married bliss. One ° evening last week Wellington and Kae Webster had Charles and Mayme Wilkins over for a nice visit with them. On Tuesday afternoon, the Ripley Horticultural Society held their regular monthly meeting in Kincardine at the home of Marion McCharles. There were 27 ` members present. On Saturday afternoon Wellington and Kae, Webster had Bob and Joyce Courtney call on them. A little later Finlay. MacDonald came over with his steam engine. All had a very nice visit with the engine getting its share of admiration. Word has been received by Mr. and Mrs, 'Gordon Robb that their son-in-law, Mr. and Mrs. Edwin McCutcheon of Lion's Head had the mis- fortune to lose a barn; a shed, a quantity of hay and some haying equipment, and a quantity of lumber that had just been piled in a day or two before. The fire was started in the early morning hours by lightning one day last week. Mrs. Jim •MacKenzie was the hostess Thursday even- ing to the monthly meeting of the W.M.S. of the Ashfield Presbyterian Church. Mr. and Mrs, Lorne Luther had a number of their rela- tives visit with them lately from Ridgetown. Weekend visitors with Mr. and Mrs. Oliver McCharles of Kincardine were Mrs. Allen McCharles and three children, Susan, Karen and Greg of Oakville, Mr. and Mrs. Donald McCharles and two . children, Scott and Heather of Chatham, Mr. and Mrs. John McCharles and son, Ryan of Petrolia and Mr. and Mrs. Len Evans of - Toronto. Mr. and Mrs. Art Mat- thewman spent Thanksgiv- ing with their son-in-law, daughter and two grandchil- dred in Sudbury and on the weekend attended the Royal Canadian Dragon reunion at the Westbury Hotel.. in Tor- onto. Mr. and Mrs. Jack Mac- Kenzie are now the proud grandparents • of a new grandson, Neil Gordon Grant, son of Arnold • and Dianne Clifford of Bakker Lake, Northwest Territories.
