Kingsbridge native observes
40 years in priesthood

Father O'Loughlin celebrated the. anniver•
nary of his ordination' with a specials mass at.
St. Joseph's Church, Kingsbridge at 12 noon
on August •15, He Was assisted by Father E.
C. Garvey C,S,B, and Father Ed Dentinger
C.R. Father Michael J. Dalton of Courtland,
a cousin,attended later.
Father Dentinger welcomed the jubilerian
and guests. Father O'Loughlin's homily was,
a review of his life to this date, paying
tribute and expreiising his gratitude to his
parents, family and all who had helped him
.wring these rewarding years.
Denise Dalton organist accompanied
Eugene Frayne who sang, "How Great Thou
Art".
A memorial . service was held • in the
cemetery following the mass ._ with Father
Dentinger officiating, •
• Dinner was served at 2 pan. in the .parish
hall to 180 guests. Father O'Laughlin
thanked the many families who attended and
introduced guests at the headtable and

been researching in . the St: Michael's
Archives .in Toronto about the Basilian
Fathers who immigrated from Annanoy near
Paris, France :in 1822, to the present site of
St, Michael's Cathedral and College where
they founded the teaching Congregation of
St. Basil,
In 1936 on the occasion of a grand
home -coming to the unique little country
parish of Kingsbridge, Father O'Loughlin's
mother, May O'Loughlin was inspired to
write and publisssh a "History of St, Joseph's
Parish, Kingsbridge", It isa little classic in
style and detail, covering a century : of
history, the pathos and humor, the joys and
sorrows of the pioneers. '
The occasion which prompted the publish
ing of this history was the second reunion of
the Old Boys of the• Parish in August 1936.
The Basilians are named after St. Basil the,
Great • (309 - 379), the archbishop of
Caesarea, Cappadosls, Eastern Asia, a•
teacher and a doctor of the church. He was
their model and inspiration.
Father O'Loughlin is also searching,, the
records: of the Mexican Missions, Texas for •
their SOth anniversary in 1986.
He organized the Kingsbridgeiieneal.
oglcal Society in 1968, with interest. far and
wide, hence his anniversary was held in his'
native community, inviting the cousins of the
O'Loughlin, Griffin and Joy families: Ethel
O'Reilly ()sinter, 91, Boulder, ;Colorado who
came the farthest distance with her brother,
Melvin, 87 from Windsor, was a special
guest. Guests from North Carolina, Phila-
delphia, Cincinnati, Cloquet, Minneapolis,"
Minnesota, Detroit and surrounding area,
Escamaba, Yspllanta, Michigan, Ottawa,
Toronto, London, Kitchener, Guelph, Clin-
ton, Goderich,. Kirkland • Lake, Kincardine'
and Lucknow also attended..
Father O'Loughlin svelte on the role of the
family today, then introduced the . enter-
tainment for the short •program. .
Joyce and Bob Courtney played . the
saxophone And , piano and Anne : Marie
McQuaid and •her sisters, Madonna and
Carol Ann accompanied by their mother,
Rose Marie .. on. the . piano, played' several'
violin selections andtheir, novelty number,
playing the violins and dancing at the .same
tame. •

Bert McDonald also played • violin setec-
tions, Everyone enjoyed' the • entertainment
which was very much appreciated.
Joe Griffin of .Detroit thanked Father
Dentinger for " his hospitality, the lady
•volunteers who served the meal, the youth of
the school and -a11 who helped as well as the
guests who made August 15, •a day, " to
remember.
