Showing or exhibiting at
fall fairs mush get into the
blood. One hundred and fif-
teen or sixteenyears ago
George Needham on the 10th
concession east In Huron
township hitched a team of
horses to a steel tired high
wagon, loaded a bull calf into
it, and headed for Amberley,
a distance of 15 or 16 miles.
He was awarded first prize
for his calf. On Saturday,
September 4, his great,
great, great granddaughter
Janice Needham, also on the
10th con., although her
parents were going to a
funeral, decided that she
would like to show at the Kin-
'cardine fall fair. She loaded
four Holsteins and with the
help of a.novice she washed
and got them fitted to show.
Showing against two other
herds she got junior and
reserve grand champion. On
September 17 she and her
father Jim attended the
Holstein day at the Western
Fair in London. Here show-
ing a strange calf she placed
second in Junior Showman-
stulo in a strong class. Janice
and her brother Larry are
the fifth generation of
Needhams to slow livestock
at the Ripley Huron fall fair.

tinued to Leamington and
there took his car on the
ferry "The Pelee Islander"
to the island. Pelee Island,
nine miles long and six miles
wide, is themost southerly
populated land in Canada
and is on the latitude of nor-
thern California. So its
longer, growing season
makes it ideal for the grow-
ing of many acres of the
finest soybeans. Norm
reports that Lake Erie was
rough as it often is at this
time. Hence the fishing was
not very good. However he
had a beautiful trip and ar-
rived back in Ripley late
Sunday night.
Earlier in September
