Sunday school picnic

enjoyed the Sunday School
picnic which was held at
Fisherman's Cove on Sunday
afternoon. '
• Members of the Masonic
Order, Old Light Lodge,
aftended the service at South
Kinloss Presbyterian Church
on Sunday morning. Rev.
Wm. Henderson conducted
the service. The men's choir
rendered two enjoyable num-
bers.
Mr. and Mrs. Russel Bea -
cock of Wiarton visited rec-
ently with Mr. and Mrs. Ira
Dickie.
Dinner guests on Tuesday
evening with Mr. and Mrs.
Pord Cunningham, Ken and
Ray were Mr. and Mrs. Lloyd
• Webster of Big Valley, 'Al-
•berta. Judy Austin and Bob
bie Moffat of Goderich visit -
•ed for the evening.
Mr. and Mrs. John Mow-
ary Vair named chairman of hospital board
•Mary Vair of Belgrave became the new
chairman of the Wingham and District
Hospital board of governors at the board's
inaugural meting June 24. She succeeds
Jack Kopas of Wingham who completed his
second term as chairman of the board.
Indeclining the position for a third year,
Kopas said he wants to see the past
chairman of the board complete his service
on the board sitting around the table to offer
support as past chairman. Kopas said he is
also interested in working with the hospital
foundation which is becoming aware that as
well as being a custodian of funds, it must
also act as an organizer of fund raising.
Kopas said he is also interested in serving on
the board's new community services liaison
committee.
\ The new committee was instituted by
•hospital by-law changes made at the hospital
corporation's annual, meeting prior to the
board's inaugural meeting. The committee
has the purpose of discussing and making
recommendations to the board of governors
to assist in local co-ordination of services,
preventing duplication, addressing needs
and making improvements in health care
delivery. •
• Kopas was subsequently named chairman
of ,the new committee at the inaugural
Meeting.

Mrs. Vair first sat on the board as the
• hospital's auxiliary's representative and
following her year in that capacity returned
to the •board as the county appointed
representative for. the County of Huron. She
has been the board's county representative
for three years.
Incumbent board members who •were
re-elected to the board at the annual meeting
include Archie Hill of Wingham; Isabel
Garniss of Morris; Hans kuyvenhoven of
Turnberry; E. William Newton of Howick
• and Annie Gaunt of Wept Wawanosh who
sits to represent • Ashfield and • West
• Wawanosh.

Ron Logan, co-owner of Patton's Place, the London
area's biggest furniture and appliance outlet, agreed
that customers are looking for quality and good valUe.
• But he disagreed that consumers have stopped spen-
ding money. ••

"The money's out there", he said, "But they have to
have justification to spend. We're not suffering. 1 won't
deny it hasn't been hard slugging."

Patton's Place laid off 28 employees in December but
has since rehired or replaced them and total em-
ployment now stands at 102, Logan said., He and par-
tner Gord Patton founded the business 24 years ago.
•"rm not denying a !ot of people aro hyrting, but they
have to get back to basics," he said. "You can't quit ad-
vertising. Many are having difficulty because they're'
not advertising."
Logan said his company uses newspaper, radio, and
television advertising heavily in London, Chatham and
Sarnia, and this a main reason that it has been able to
attract heavy traffic Wits store.

Goderich graduated to high
school at the graduation held
in Knox Presbyterian Church
at Goderich on Wednesday,
June 23. Attending the grad-
uation were his two grand-
mothers, Anne Austin and
Eunice Cunningham and Mr.
and Mrs. Gary Austin, Amy
and Jonathan and Agnes
Thomson.
• The community is sorry to
learn that a house owned by
Mr. and Mrs. Peter Neufeld
in Hamilton was badly dam-
aged by fire. Peter was
driving home from Hamilton
when he heard that a house
there' was on fire, and it
turned out, it was his home.
The fire is believed tohave
been started by children.
