Mary, who was one of the first women in this area to drive School bus, says she is bringing in the second generation of children and it makes her feellike a grand- mother. [Sentinel Staff Photo] On. Sunday evening Mrs,. Mary Brooks was honoured on her retirement after serving; the Ripley schools for 30 years as a .school bus driver. She started back in 1952 when they operated their own buses. Attending were a number of former • students on her bus back at that time namely Dr. Sandy MacDonald,Murray Thompson, Nancy (Elliott).. Kelly, Ron and Marilyn Farrell. The group gathered in the auditorium of the Ripley High School to enjoy a pot luck supper. It was followed by a program with Principal Floyd Stanley as M.C. Taking part in the program were step dancers Helen Needham and Denice Courtney, accordionist Jennifer Schlegel, and poem. reader Jenny Maclntosh. Following the program was the presentation of gifts. Mrs: Barbara Burgess of the ' Ripley District School staff presented Marywith a gift onbehalf of the school staff and students and Vern Normanmanager of Travelways at• Kincardine presented her with a gift on behalf of Travelway Bus Line and also the staff at the Ripley Huron Central. WYLDS ' Last Thursday evening a meeting wan held in the Ripley Legion hall con- cerning the library. At it were the officers of the Bruce County Library Board and the Ripley Hiiron Library . Board. They reviewed the operation of the local library board during the past four ,months and found the book "circulation was . down. If this . trend continues the weekly hours ' for the library to be open will be cut from the present 16 to 10. A small increase in cir- culation is needed to prevent this. The Ripley Library committee felt that the people of Huron and Ripley should know this. Now the committee is planning small "out reach" programs or events for the library such as. artists and speakers to come to the library in the Ripley Huron Legion Hall. It is hoped that as people at- tended ttended these events they will talk with the librarian Mrs. Gloria Rutledge and perhaps take a book home -to read. Attending the meeting were Ross .Fowler of Southampton chairman of ., the Bruce ,County, Library board, reeve Howard Collins of Port Elgin, Erik Thomsen past warden of Bruce County and Joyce Johnson of Port Elgin the Bruie County librarian. From the Ripley Huron area were the following , persons, in at- tendance – Bill Tranter reeve of Ripley, Gwen, Harrison, Olwen MacAuley, Dianne Heinisch, Harry Crain of Point Clark, John Gamble, and Ripley Huron librarian Mrs. Gloria Rutledge. Bill Tranter was the chairman of the meeting. Last Saturday, . June 5, Redvers and Mildred Johnson celebrated their 53. rd wedding anniversary at their home on the main street north in. Ripley. Their daughter Mrs. Joy (George) McLean had an Ann Murray song played for them on C.K..N.X. radio during the noon hour. L On Tuesday evening of last week,. June lst, the grain committee of the Ripley Fall Fair held their annual meeting at the home of John and Barbara Gamble on the 6th Concession east in Huron Township: Presiding at the meeting was Gordon Pat- terson chairman of the grain committee. In attendance were ` jcommittee members Keith van der . Hoek, Bob Rutledge, Hugh Mason, and Jim Brook along with the secretary of the Ripley Agricultural Society Don MacTavish: The same . field crop competitions as in 1981 are again being held. A couple of rules were cleared and the prizes are the same as last year. The monthly meeting of the Ripley Agricultural Society will be held on Monday evening, June 14, at nine in the high school cafeteria. A week ago last Monday afternoon. Jack Johnson returned home to Ripley from a ten day visit with his daughter Kay, her husband. and family. Mr. 'and 1Vfrs.', Murray Regan operate a large swine' farm at. RR .6 Mount • Forest. Jim Tout brought Jack back to Ripley. Last Thursday evening members of the Ripley Legion Auxiliary met in the Ripley Legion Hall with Mrs. Nadine Danforth of Point Clark presiding. At the meeting a new president, lst vice and 2nd vice president were elected. They are Susan Cliffe, Evylene MacTavish,' and Kathy Gallant. -Continuing in their present offices. are secretary Kerry Houston, treasurer Lois Pollock, and sports director Dorothy. On Sunday Evelyn Irwin, Donalda \MacDonald, and Isabel Brook visited Marie Crawford in Goderich. Last Wednesday evening June 2, John Gamble, Keith van der . Hoek, Kermit Goodhue and Perrin Lowry of the Ripley Agricultural Society held an "on the spot" meeting at the Knox Church Shed to make plans and estimates on fixing the north wall. President John Gamble says that the ,work meeting will be the first rainy day.
