Librarycommittee discusses ways.
to increase reader awareness here
The local committee for
the Lucknow Branch. Library
met Wednesday . evening,
May 5, at the Library: This
was the first .meeting, of the
committee this year and new
members were f introduced.
Present were Kerri O'Neill,
Helen, Riegling, Harlow
Stonehouse, Lorna' Guay,
Bernice Johnstone; Greta
Johnston, and Fran McQuail,
Library. Supervisor.
Mrs. McQuail presented a
description of 'how the
Branch Library, system of
Bruce County Public Library
was organized and its rela-
tionship to Georgian ' Bay
Regional Library System in
Barrie. The functioning of
Lucknow Library was discus-
sed.
The Library is used prim-
arily by adult' fiction' treaders
and elementary agechildren.
r While the senior citizen
population of the area is
large, not many of them
make use of the library and
the ' committee discussed
ways of increasing their
awareness of its resources.
Through the BC Library
system .and . Georgian Bay
Regional Library System,
patrons of Lucknow Library
have . access to large print
books and Talking Books for
patrons who aren't, able to
use ordinary books. Patrons
who are unable to come to
the library on a regular basis.
may use the mailbox library
services whereby ..they re-
ceive books through the mail.'
Mrs. ' McQuail noted that
the library'scirculation has-
n't changed much in the past
two years, averaging 1000+
books a month, but that
there has been increased
useage of other services.
such as interlibrary loan book
requests, film requests, cas-
sette tape requests, and
Talking Book requests which
has .significantly increased
the ,administrative: work. The
assistance of a page, Dianne.
Henry, for two hours a week
beginning last January , has
helped. The committee ag-
reed that an additional. two
hours of page help per week
should be applied for 'from
the County.
Suggestions of ways to
improve the Library includ-
ed: the addition of a coat
tree, boot trays, inside bul-
letin board, outside notice
board, repairing the chairs,
continuation of the Library
column in the Sentinel, and a
drop box for after hour use. it
wassuggested that perhaps
the service clubs or towns
council would be willing to
help with some of the
projects. •I,
