Ripley area farme rswork to finish seeding•

During the past week and a;
half the weather . has 'been
great in this area. Just what
everyone has looked for
since the long cold winter.
Last Friday and Sunday
morning about ten a big jet
plane was observed flying
high in the clear blue sky in a
west direction over the
Ripley area. On Saturday
morning the sky was cloudy
hence no sighting. Possibly it
was on a regular schedule
bound for Chicago.
The farmers were all out in
`their fields getting the
seeding done before the rain
comes.* At times the' hum of
their tractors. fills the air.
Taking advantage Of the
pleasant ; outdoors last
Thursday evening a leader
and a group of girls were out
picldnt.up debris such as
papers and wrappers in Gore
• Park.
On Monday morning last
week Sandy Pollock and Rob
Regier gave the pole yard lot
at the Huron and . Kinloss
Telephone garage north, of
the Ripley Grain Elevator an.
old fashioned Arbour Day
cleaning. Assorted waste
material was hauled to the
dump. '
On Tuesday eveningofhist
week Mary Eadie of
Holyrood was, interviewed on
C.K.N.X. television on her
coming attendance at a
conference in West Ger-
many. Next day, last.
Wednesday, she, was heard
on, the Wingham radio, From
these ,interviews it was
gathered that she is at-
tending as.a delegate at the
invitation of the Bavarian
Young Farmers, It is always
nice to learn that a young
person from the area is doing
well.
On Monday of last week,
Apr. 26, 1982, Miss Lettie
Gawley of Ripley died in
Brucelea Haven in
Walkerton in her 83rd year.
The • funeral service with
Rev. Bob Putman of Pine
River officiating was held in
the Macltensie McCreath
Funeral Home in Ripley last
Thursday afternoon. Letitia.
Ann Gawley was born on
October 4, 1899, in Huron
Township. She is survived by
her sister Ethel in Ripley,
and by two brothers Vic.
Gawley of Ripley and Leslie
of. Powell River, British
Columbia. Interment
followed in Kincardine
Cemetery. Sympathy is
extended' to family members
at this time of bereavement.
Mrs. Mabel Cameron of
Kincardine and formerly of
'Huron Township died in
Kincardine and District
Hospital on Wednesdayof
last week, Apr. 28, 1982. The

students begin
second semester

Midterm Exams Over:
The second semester
midterm exams were on
Apr. 16; 19 and 20. There are
only about two more months
of school left for this year!
Typing Contest: A number
of students in Mrs.
McMillian's Office Practice
class went to Port Elgin on
Apr. 21 to compete in a typ-
ing . contest. Unfortunately
none of the girls ,placed, but
they did make a good effort.
Spirit Day: On Fri., Apr.
23 R.D.S. students dressed
up as their favorite per-
sonality. The winner of the
prize for the best im r-
sonator was Lisa Col ins,
who was dressed up as.
Charlie Chaplin. There was
also a dance at noon hour
held by the grade eleven
dramatic arts Class. Admis-
sion was charged at the door
and .$85 was raised for the
French trip to Quebec.
Bake Sale: On. Wed,, Apr.
28 there will be a bake sale in
front of the high school and
the money . will go to the
Quebec trip in June.
Drama Presentation: The
English 334 Drama class put
former Mabel. Charlotte
Emmerton she was in • her
. 88th year. The funeral
service was held last. Friday
afternoon in the MacKenzie
McCreath Funeral Home in
Kincardine with interment in
, Kincardine Cemetery. She is
survived by one son Mervyn
of Mississauga and two
daughters Marie, Mrs, Jim
MacDonald, Con, 12 West,
Huron Township and Rita,
Mrs, Doug MacDonald of
Mississauga. She was
predeceased by her husband,
Hugh Cameron, two'months
ago. To all family members
sympathy is extended at this
time of bereavement.
Secretary of the Ripley
Agricultural . Society . Don,
MacTavish called to remind
us that on next Monday
evening at eight the Society
will be holding their May
meeting. Don and his wife
• ' Anna recently returned from
their winter home in
Tamarac,. Florida. During

of London and formerly of
Ripley died in Victoria
Hospital in London. The
funeral service was held last

on a science fiction comedy
play . for the grade two and
three classes from R.H.C.S.
A good time was had by all. -
Education Week: On Apr.
28 there will be an Open
House held at R.D.S.;star-,
ting at 8:00 p.m. The'theme
this
year . is "Growing
Together". There will be a
slide presentation that
depicts . sore school ac-
tivities, a band presentation,
microcomputer, video
cassette and recorder.
demonstrations. There will
be classroom subject,
displays and refreshments'
served at the end.
Table Tennis: On Apr. 21
there was a table tennis tour-
nament . in Chesley. The
Ripley team members did
well.
Variety Night: Practices
for Ripley's Variety Night
which will be held on May 13
and 14 are now underway.
The play will be a mystery
comedy.
Spring Prom: R.D.S.'s an-
nual spring prom was held
on Fri., Apr, 30. Dancing was
from 9 to 1, music supplied
by Drumlin.
Doughboys host party
Kingsbridge Doughboys
4•H club held a party at the
home of their leader, Mrs,
Van Osch on April 6. Donna
Drennan welcomed everyone
and punch was served.,
Debbie Drennan presented
Mrs. Van Osch and Mrs.
$cott with a wall hanging in
appreciation for their time
and effort in •leading this
'dub.

sampling the breads and
buns which the girls had
learned to make during the
project,

McAllister. She was born on.
Wednesday, May 19, 1915 in
Wingham. She is survived by
two, daughters, Patt, Mrs.
Hugh Mason, Con. 2 west in
Huron • Township, and
Marlene of Canton,
Michigan, and by two sons.
Doug of Dartmouth, Nova
Scotia, and David of Ottawa,
also 11 grandchildren Mabel
is also survived by her two
brothers, Jack and Charles
and her sister Jean. She was
predeceased by her husband
Andy Raney and her
parents, Mr. and Mrs. Harry
McAllister;.
The family home in the
north end of the village here
is across the road from the
Ripley Chopping Mill. It is
now the home of Dick and
Jean Edmiston. As a girl
Mabel attended the : Ripley
Public School and the Ripley
Continuation School. Before
going to London Mabelwas
employed by the Golden
Glow Produce,in Ripley. The
folks of the 'Ripley area
extend sympathy to her
family at this time of
bereavement.
On Sunday afternoon about
a quarter to four the fire
whistle , sounded in Ripley,
The call was to. the Ripley
village dump located on the
15th• south of Ripley and
halfway between the 4th and
2nd Concessions on the back
of the Ernie Coiling farm.
Here a grass fire had broken
out and it wasfeared that it
might spread to the nearby
hardwood bush. Responding.
to the fire whistle were the
following firemen – Donnie
Peterbaugh, Doug Martyn,
George McLean, Joe
Hodgins, Bob Johnston,
Bernie , Twolen, Brian
Pollock, Rod MacDonald,
Ted Rouse, and Bill
Robinson. They had no
trouble spraying the fire out.
It is reported that there.
was a good crowd at the
"Small Engines" sale held at
the farm home of Alan
McLean last Saturday. It
was a nice day and a good
sale. Auctioneers were
Wallace Ballagh of
Teeswater and Grant
McDonald of 2nd Concession,
Huron Township, In addition
to all the machines there was
some furniture and other
items = all sold.
Queen of the Prom
There were two dances in
Ripley this past weekend. On
Friday evening it was the
annual Spring. Prom for the
high school. At it Debbie
Lowry, daughter of Perrin
and Marion Lowry at the top
of the hill at Lurgan was
chosen Queen of the Prom:
For the boys Paul. Culbert,
son of Murray and Mary
Culbert east of Ripley on the
8th was chosen' escort.
Debbie and Paul will now
have their picture on the wall
in the lower hall of the
school.
On Saturday evening the
reception dance for Ann
Courtneynd Roger Ludwig
was • held , in the Ripley
Complex. The Glenn Boyd
orchestra played for the big
crowd in attendance.
Lorne and Linda
•Emmerton and daughters
Lori and ,Cindy moved last
weekend to the original
homestead in the second
block east' of the 15th on
Concession 10 in Huron,
Township. They are now
neighbours of • Jake and
Margo Middelkamp and
family who live on the Frank
Stanley P place. The
Emmertons moved from the
former drug store apartment
in Ripley main street. Lorne
is employed by Bob
Thompson in the. Ripley
Chopping Mill.
Mrs. Mildred. Ashton,
Christopher and Michael of
Bright visited last Sunday
with her parents Leslie and
