The first part of last week
gave one the feeling that
spring at last was here. The
bright `sunshine, the melting '
snow, the singing birds back
from the south were a few of
the signs up till mid -week. So
just maybe jgbe long winter
was coming -fa an end. But all
that changed' in a hurry. By
Friday -winter was back with
cold winds, low tem-
peratures, and blowing
snow. It reminded • us of the -
end of March in 1940 back

night March 23, 1940, people
'gathered at the Ripley
railway station for the late
train at 11 p,m. until the
place was full. There they
stayed ,till fpur on Sunday
morning • when the train
arrived. And .it reached
Kincardine about four -thirty

One of those who has vivid
memories of that weekend is
Nelson Hodgins ins of Ripley for

held on Sunday afternoon.'
Well that is a long time ago

and gone since then. Can you,
recall if the snow came to
