The left part of the building Is the location of the Robert Campbell law office. , Cheese factory construction to begin By Ab Wylds The Big newsin Ripley on Monday morning was that the building of the new Pine River Cheese Factory had started but., on talking to manager Don Martin it was learned that this report was premature. However, it is expected to start this week with the construction of an access road at the new Site: The new site is on the west side of, Highway 21 and located north of the Sixth Concession road. Here a new factory will be built by the contractor Don MacArthur contracting of RR 5, ,Kin- sardine. Lynn Armstrong of - Ripley. Ripley: works for the MacArthur firm. • Well' everyone has waited for this good news since fire ', destroyed the old factory on Monday .afternoon October 26, 1981 a long time now till Monday ' March 29, 1982, some five months. Toronto last Sunday afternoon: They attended themarriage of their .daughter Barbara there on Friday, March 26 to Allan Shawn Brown, son of Mr. and,Mrs: Clifford Brown of Hamilton. The happy couple are residing on Duplex Avenue in Toronto. The wedding dinner was held on Friday evening at the home of Mr. and. Mrs. Clifford Brown. A reception dance was held for Mr. and. Mrs. Wray Thompson in the Ripley Huron Community Centre Complex on Saturday evening. Orchestra -for the `r- c ption was the Siddon Bros. The presentation address' was made by Bob Emerson of , Purple Grove and a good crowd enjoyed the evening. Ron Elliott, son of Mr. and Mrs, Harold Elliott of the 8th Concession .east in Huron Township was injured in .a weekgnd car accident. Ridin, with • his brother-in- law Ron Stanley of Lucknow, both nien Were injured when the car reportedly, struck an • ice patch' in the Mount Forest area and rolled over. Ron Elliott was released from the Mount Forest hospital but Ron Stanley was taken to the Kitchener hospital. His wife is the former Linda Elliott. And Ron and Linda Stanley run the Lucknow Bowling Alley. • Elmer ' Wylds of Kin- cardinehad a short visit last Thursday "afte'r`noon• with Mrs. Jenny McLean and With Fran • and Ab Wylds Ripley: Mr. Don Barnard of Toronto visited with his parents ' Norm and Mabel Barnard on the weekend and attended» the Barnard Spiel • at the Curling Club: After joining Norm for 'the presentations, he intends to be back next year as a participant. The first part of last week gave one the feeling that spring at last was here. The bright `sunshine, the melting ' snow, the singing birds back from the south were a few of the signs up till mid -week. So just maybe jgbe long winter was coming -fa an end. But all that changed' in a hurry. By Friday -winter was back with cold winds, low tem- peratures, and blowing snow. It reminded • us of the - end of March in 1940 back 42 years ago. March Storm On ' Saturday, ' March 23 •then the worst storm of the winter started. By Saturdiy afternoonit was a howling blizzardand this continued through the night and Sunday before it ended the next night. Then Monday carne .ajong like this past Sunday morning -- bright and sunny, On Saturday night March 23, 1940, people 'gathered at the Ripley railway station for the late train at 11 p,m. until the place was full. There they stayed ,till fpur on Sunday morning • when the train arrived. And .it reached Kincardine about four -thirty the morning. One of those who has vivid memories of that weekend is Nelson Hodgins ins of Ripley for he helped his father George dig the grave for a funeral held on Sunday afternoon.' Well that is a long time ago and many storms have come and gone since then. Katherine Collins., A gift was presented to Don on behalf of his staff and friends. Don gave a ' fitting 'response. Following this, cards; coffee and squares were enjoyed: Mrs:: Nota McCosh died last Wednesday in Winghain hospital in her 79th year. The funeral service was held » in Goderich -off Saturday af- ternoon and interment will be in Kincardine cemetery. The former Nora Gomm, she is survived by her husband, Dr, Robert • A. McCosh of goderich, son Kenneth of Colborne Township and daughter Mary, Mrs. Allan Williams of Wingham. The sympathy of the Ripley area folks is extended to them on their bereavement.. For, some years Dr. and Mts. McCosh, Kenny and Mary lived .in the Wm. Knight house . where Mrs. Annie Scott now lives on the main street west in Ripley. Both Kenny and • Mary attended the.. While there they visited with Mrs. Wilda (Osborne) . Whitfield and with Tom and Joy ( Whitfield) Foster in Rich- mond. Muriel chatted by phone with Lorraine • (Ball) Jarvis who lives across the road from the, Fosters. Lorraine wished to be' remembered to the Many, friends in Ripley., ' It was learned while Visiting with Robert's aunt, Mrs. Whitfield that a Mr. and Mrs. Wilbert Walden lived in a nearby ' apartment building. Mr. Walden is a brother of. the late Walter Walden and late*. Mrs. Ada Steele. . Robert and Muriel had a short visit with Mr. and Mrs. Walden. • The Osborne`s report that Mr. Walden isn't enjoying the best of health but was 4, pleased to chat with someone from Huron Township.
