EXETER 7-GODERIQH 6
Credit for the Exeter 7.5 win over
Goderich in a Huron -Perth League
game at Exeter on Thursday last nu -
questionably goes to the Exeter hurler,
Llllow. With fifteen strikeout,/ on
thirty-five men at bat, LUlow, although
be bad nothing particularly "fancy"
on the hall, bad the locals swinging
wildly on his fast pitches and throw-
ing themselves out of joint on his slow
balls. F'rltxley made the one strike-
out fur Goderich.
Gus Worthy started on the mound
for the Sailors, but was given hardly
a fair chance. With one out and two
kits agaipdt him, l+ritzley went lotto
the box to retire the side, and pitched
until the Seal innings, when he was
replaced by Klrk.
The Goderich squad was not at full
strength for the game, Archer and
Sheardown being unavoidably absent
and Wood being out with a bad knee.
Goderich trailed 2-0 until tbe fourth.
then made a bit or two, Klrk 'coring,
but in the lad of the fourth Exeter
garnered three more, to lead 5-1, and
increased the lead by ode more in the
fifth, after retiring Goderich in one-
two -three order.
In the sixth the Sailers staged a
rally and, led by Kirk, scored four
runs before being retired; bat Exeter
chalked up another before going down
In the last of the sixth, thus taking e
7-5 lead.
Goderieb t out on a good
chance to tie matters up when, with
Kink and Murdock on beeps and two
out in the seventh, Fritaley was put
out.
Exeter was retired .eorele'aa in the
seventh and after Curren made a nice
bit in the eighth Utley bore down and
e,L ck,9)tt three men in a row. The
Exeter quad pillar Wtf ^ebe rbitf of
the eighth innings.
The managerial duties of the God-
erich team have passed through s
many hand. 1t is getting to be some-
what of a Joke. In the "beware on
Thursday of Archer, who, with Frits -
ley, took Bill Barlowa place as man-
ager, Mac MacDonald held down the
job. Kirk 1s said to be the next in
line for the position.
