Cabin fever soon to be spring fever

•Today, is Wednesday,
• March 17 - St. Pati ck's Day,
and it will soon be the tune to
change ' this winter cabin
• fever for the feeling of spring
fever.

Ripley folks are glad to
• know that Ambrose Gamble
who had been a patient in
Kincardine and District
• Hospital is back home in
• Ripley on Ripley Street. All
• wish Ambrose continued
• recovery. .
Just when writer Ab Wylds
was thinking of putting all
those • newspapers on the
bonfire along comes word
fir* Jan Fludder that the
Brownies and Guides are
going ahead with their paper
• drive on May 8. Jan is also
counting on those Zehr tapes
for the Figure Skating Club.

tend sympathy to Rev. and
Mrs. Philip Ruch of St.
Paul's Anglican Church on
the death of his father Rev.
• Richard A.E. Ruch of
• Dundas/ Ontario. The late
Rev. Riehard Ruch served in
the diocese of Athabasca, the
• diocese of Huron, and finally
in the diocese of Niagara
retiring in 1975. The funeral
• service was held in St. Jude's
•Church in Brantford with
interment in Eastnor
Cemetery, Lion's Head,
• John Smith , of 'the 8th
Concession east of Ripley
was •able to return to his
home •last Friday. Now
• recovering ' Johnny •un-
derwent surgery earlier in
the week' at the Kincardine
This weekend Glenda and
A.J. Gardner of. ,Vanastra
and Carol and Donnie
• FlutIder of Ripley motored to
the Huntsville and Burks
Falls areas to visit relatives
there. It was a special oc-
casion for Mr. and Mrs.
Collins - grandparents of
Carol and Glenda.
Miss Jean MacDonald of
the Pinecrest Manor Nursing
•staff visited with her sister
Miss Noreen MacDonald at
their ' home on Malcolm
Street in Ripley this past
weekend.
Miss Eunice Stanley of
Windsor and native of the
Purple GroVe area of Huron
Township died last Wed-
nesday, March 10, 1982, in
•
and District Hospital.
On Friday afternoon the
fire whistle sounded in
Ripley around five o'clock.
Lucknow firemen were on
•the 12th Concession west in
Ashfield Township fighting a
• house fire on the farm of
John Miltenberg and' they
needed more water. Ripley
was called for 'their water
• tank truck. Ripley firemen
Doug- Martyn and Bernie
Twolen took the truck and
hauled water to the fire. The
house was destroyed in spite
of the efforts of the firemen
• to prevent it. To many people
the farm is better known as
the farm of Jack. and Bertha
MacKenzie who now live on
Highway 86 at the west edge
of Lochalsh - one block north
of their home ,on 'the 12th
Concession.•
Bill Steer, resident at the
• Pinecrest Manor Nursing
Home in Lucktiow; was able
to return there. last Thur-
sday. Ripley arealolks were
glad ;to hear this good news.
A few weeks. ago Bill Suf-
fered • a broken hip .with
complications. From
Wingham hospital he was
transferred to University
Hospital in London for
treatment. Bill first came to
Canada to work ort Con-
• cession 10 east in 'Huron
Township in 1907.
Grace Hospital in Windsor at
the age of 78 years. The
funeral service was • con-
ducted last Friday in the Don
•Morris Funeral Home in
Windsor.. Temporary • en-
tombment will b'e in the
Kincardine Cemetery
• Chapel with spring burial •
there. She • was the last
surviving meniber, of a
family of .12 children whose
parents • were the late Tom
Stanley and Ellen Hodgins.
The eldest member in this
family was Hattie, wife of
the late George Mooney,
• editor and owner of the
Ripley 'Express neWspaper.
• Fifth in the family was the
late Milton Stanley of. Purple
•Grove. Eunice was aunt to
Mrs: Adeline (Ross) Martyn
of Ripley, Cecil Mooney of
Woodstock, Glen Stanley of
•Clarks on the 12th Con-
cession west, Russ Stanley
on the 6th Concession east,
and Norval Stanley on the
home farm on the 10th
Concession east - all in
•Huron Township as well as
many more away from this
area. Her father, when he
• retired moved the house into
Ripley, renovated it •
and
bricked the exterior; It is
now the home where Mrs. •
Mildred • VVylds lives on, the
• main street south in Ripley.
Sympathy is extended at this
time of bereavement to all
•the family relatives.
Cecil Sutton of Purple
Grove is presently delivering
• the mail each morning on
RR 4 from Ripley Post
Office. Route, 4 covers both
the 8th and 6th Concessions
in Huron Township.
For this year at least the
groundhog and its shadow on
February 2nd is ,proving
true. Back six weeks from •
yesterday March 16 it was
Tuesday , Feb. 2 - a bright
sunny winter day and, there
has been six weeks of winter
since that day.
•
The lusty cawing of that
pair of crows in the west end
of Ripley brings thoughts of
the coming spring. They find
home and shelter in the large
• spruce trees in the vicinity of
• the former Ripley Publi• c
School. On Sunday morning
a killdeer ,was heard flying
overhead and last Saturday
morning ,• a. •redwing
•blackbird was sighted ina:
tree at the back of the
Redvers Johnson place but
nosrobins to date, only a few
• unwanted Starlings. • •

Church, Roseville, Michigan
• to attend a special worship
service commemorating 25
years of ministry of Rev.
• J.R. and Mrs. MacDonald in
• that church. His brother,
Rev. Donald C. MacDonald
of Toronto preached the
sermon. Also present were
their daughter Helen Carlsen
of Kamloops, B.C., their sons
David of Craigieith, Ontario
and Gordon of California. A
memorial window is being
installed in the church to
mark the occasion. A coffee
hour was enjoyed following ,
the service..• Mrs. Cassie
Price, sister of Gladys
Huston and her family en-
tertained the people from
Ripley at her home during'
the afternoon. •
Mr. and Mrs. Douglas
Johnson of Kincardine were
guests on Sunday with Mrs.
• Katherine Coiling on Park
Street in Ripley:
