Elaine Irwin opened the meditation. Helen Hackett read the. scriptures. Elaine Irwin, Helen Hack- ett ackett and Irma Henderson presented a skit with the theme, Trash Collectors,and -named personal hurts, grud- ges and ill .feelings they were loth to forget and forgive. As. audience participation,it was suggested that each write down some personal griev- ance, ezamine it regularly and at the end of the year see if it had been forgiven and forgotten. Elaine Irwin spoke on the meaning of "Justice" and our good fortune to have freedom of religion, choice of judicial procedures, etc. The organization, Arnensty Inter- national, being sponsored by United. Church Women, was discussed. Each member .is asked to write three letters a month to conform to a certain format to be responsible for postage., There are political prisoners in 90 countries that need the support of the free world. Helen Hackett read a poem, Thank You Dear Lord for a Very Pleasant Day, to close the discussion. The attendance was an- swered with a Bible verse with the word, Forgive. The minutes of the February meeting were read and ap- proved by Mrs. ' Jardine, seconded by Mrs. Dexter. Mrs. A. Irwin gave the treasurer's report and "Hap- py Birthday" was sung to Mrs.. Jardine and Mrs.:Dez- ter. Mrs. Mamie Henderson told of her visitation to the sick and elderly and ofthe appreciation shown. Mrs. Bradley explhred the request from Pinecrest for volunteers to assist with various programs. Our group is responsible for flowers in the church for this month and Greta Johnston is . the con- vener.. A petition; Women for Peace, was circulated for sig- natures and Mrs. Bradley gave a report of the Pres- bytery meeting held in Har- riston. •'Unit 2 Members of Unit # 2 of the Lucknow U.C.W. met . at the home of Mrs. Grace Gibson on Tuesday, March 2 with 16 in attendance. Mrs. Mary MacGillivray welcomed everyone and read. a poem entitled, Strangers Are Friends We •Haven't Met. Mrs. Russell Button stated the months of April and Sept- eniber were the unit's re- sponsibility for flowers at the church. Mrs. Button chaired the. devotional part of the meet- ing, reading a meditation. entitled, My Hand In God's, followed with prayer. Mrs. Wes. Ritchie read the scrip- ture. Mrs. Stuart Reavie in- troduced the Study Book, Faith and. Justice, relating to family life today. It was followed by a question and answer period which proved most interesting. A duet entitled, Jesus Is Tenderly. Calling Today, was sung by Mrs. Mary MacGil- livray and Mrs. Wm. Camp- bell. A reading entitled,. Let Not Your Heart Be Troubled, was read by Miss Elizabeth Rob- inson and she then conduct- ed a flower contest,, helping members think of spring. Mrs. MacGillivray gave a short . report of the Bruce Presbyterial held the prev- ious ` day in Harriston and attended by 11 Lucknow ladiesi. Gracewas sung.. and a dainty lunch served by the committee in charge. 'Unit 3 Unit 3 of the Lucknow U.C.W. met at the home Of Mrs. Ross Shiells, who con ducted the business portion of the meeting. In her welcome she said the theme was, Prayer, .our . thanks to God. ' Seventeen members • re- sponded to the roll call with a Bible verse on prayer,and a. get well cards for the visiting committee. Each member is asked to bring a bat of soap to the April meeting. A special collection was taken for the Blanket Fund. Mrs. Shiells read a letter from Pinecrest Home re- questing volunteer, help with patients. After discussion, it was decided to leave it to the members to get in touch with Pinecrest on a voluntary basis. ,. Mrs. Charles MacDonald. convened the devotional per iod. Mrs. Glen Walden display- ed several new books avail= able for programs and took as her topic, The Life and Aims of Paulo Freire, a Brazilian eductor, who teach- es the adult illiterates on their level of understanding.
