Sepoys win first playoff series
. The Lucknow Sepoys won.
their first series by defeating
Tara in a hart4fqught :battle.

The Lucknow Sepoys took
a one game lead in their
series against Tara February
21. It was an Action filled
game with both goals and
penalties being in abund-
ance.
The Sepoys led 4.2 in the
first,with Mark Frayne. scor-
ing on "a penalty shot.
The second period was
faster with the .Sepoys again
• retiring with the lead.
During .the third. period
Lucknow played some terrific
defensive hockey, Q playing
most of the period short
handed. Mark Frayne picked
up a hat trick during the third
to makethe final score 9.7.
Ray Guay made some ex-
cellent saves 'during the
game.. Lucknow's other goals
.were scored by Randy Alton,.
Barry Fairway, John Mac-
Leod, Tam Forster and Doug
Stevenson.
On Wednesday night the
Sepoys travelled to Tara and
it was quite a .change frau
the previous games. With
penalty minutes' down con-
siderably, ,
on-siderably,, it was a much
better game. The referees
even commented "Excellent
Game" on the game sheen,
The end of the first period
found the teams tied at one
with. Randy Alton scoring the
only goal. for Lucknow.
Tara again took the lead
early in the second period
and Lucknow had to play
catch up hockey. They played
it well and Mark Frayne
scored twice while the de-
fense played great, allowing
Tara to score only konce more
during the iest of the game..
Pat Murray put in • the
game winner and John Em -
Berlin. popped in the insur-
ance goal for the Sepoys.
- The Sepoys will now meet
Teeswater Which should.
prove to be an excellent
series. On Friday . night,
Lucknow will play in Tees -
water at 8.30 p.m. These two
teams will play again here on
Sunday at 4.00 p.m. See you,
at the arena.
Atoms playing Brussels series
The Atoms are presently in
a best two out of three series
with Brussels in .the .OMHA
DD playoffs. The first game
was " played in Lucknow on.
February 24. Ina very close
gamethe visitors were able
to gain a 3 1 victory.
The first scoring in the
game came near the end" of
the second period to' put
Brussels ahead. Midway
through the third, Lucknow
came . back to tie the score
with Jim Sinnett scoring on a
pass from Elmer Foran.'
Brussels then scored their
second to go out in front
again.
In the last couple of min-
utes of the game the visitors
scored" the insurance •marker."
Jonathan Nelson played
an outstanding game in goal.
The Lucknow team was

led the Lucknow Fleas to a 5 -
1 trouncing of the Belgrave
Tyke team when they played
at the Lucknow Arena Feb-
ruary 20.

led 4 - 0 at the end of the
second.
Belgrave came back in the
third and managed to put one
past Lucknow goalie Russell
Sutton to • rob him of his
shutout at the 7.50 •mark of
the third period.
On Friday. night Lucknow
met Ripley in. Ripley and
' came away with a 4 = 3
victory. •
Ripley opened the scoring
at the 13.12 mark of the fust.
period and Lucknow's Steven
Stothers answered with an
unassisted goal two minutes
later.
Lucknow . dominated the
score: sheet in the second
period taking a 4 1 lead, on
goals by Justin Murray,
Adrian Rau and Michael
Vandervelde, all unassisted.
Lucknow held onto their..
solid .lead until the dying
minutes of the game when
Ripley scored two unanswer-
ed goals with 1.34 minutes
and again with 28 seconds
left in the game.
The Lucknow boys play
host ' to the annual Flea
'Hockey Tournament this Sat-
urday when area teams will
play for the championship
trophy. All the novice teams
in the area are playing some
very gdod hockey so • come
out and cheer the .boys • on.

3 at 7.00 p.m.
Lucknow Atoms were
'guest participants in a Minor
Sportsday at 'Tiverton on
Saturday, , February •20. Tiv-
erton came out with a 7 - 5
win in very• clean, close
contest. • •
Lucknow's first goal was
scored' late in the first period
by Kent Campbell, unassist-
ed. Midway through the sec-
ond frame, Rod Crich con-.
• nected on a pass from Scott
Gibson. Tiverton came back
to score in a scramble in front
of the Lucknow net. Elmer
Foran put Lucknow up two
with Rod Crich assisting. The
next two goals were scored
by Tiverton to end the second
period with a 3 - 3 tie.
Tiverton went ahead early
in the third Only to have Brad
Murray, dent the twine on -a
combination with . Kent.
Campbell. This put Lucknow
even again. Tiverton came
back with two more before
Scott Gibson scoredLuck-
now's fifth goal unassisted.
Another goal by Tiverton put
them " up two to end the
game. An indication of the
Lucknow team . effort is the
fact that each of the local's
goals were scored by differ-
ent players. '.
