A grant of $500 to each of the four
county hospitals was recommended and
brought • veritable storm of protest.
The grant. last year was $650 and
four years ago was $1000. Reeve Bal-
lantyne was in the chair during com-
mittee dtecueeion. Reeve Peter Scott
said all hospitals bad shown a profit
to 19:•3, out Reeve Davidson corrected
him in so far as Wingham hospital
was concerned. stating there was a de-
ficit of over $,x000. Reeve Scott re-
torted that considerable amounts had
been wr:tten off for depreciation to
show a loss. Warden Elttott, Reeves
(rosier of Seaforth, Turner and ?Jen-
nings of Goderich and others all spoke
very strongly in favor of maintaining
the grant of $050. Reeves Sweltzer Of
Stephen and Goldthorpe of Colborne
had other Ideas and favedlthe

duction, pointing to the plight
farmers and the salary lists of the hos-
pitals. A statement that townspeople
were much better off than were the
farmers brought a sharp retort from
Reeves Tnrjter and Bowman. The
latter said there were only two bunt -
nem men in Brussels making any
money. Reeve Turner said It was not-
iceable that council never whittled
