The. February meeting of
the ' Lucknow Presbyterian
W.M.S. was held on Wed-
nesday. February 3 at the `
home of Mrs. Noble ,John-
ston. Despite the inclement
weather, there was a good
attendance. •
Mrs. Morgan Henderson,
presided and opened the
meeting with a poem, God's.
Love. '
The Bible 'Study on, Han-
nah, was taken by Mrs. ,
William Ross The Bible
Study this year is, Women of
the Bible. Mrs. Ross told •of
Hannah's faith in God and
when her prayers to have a
child were answered, she
dedicated her 'song Samuel,
to God. Mrs: Noble Johnston
led in "prayer.
During the business dis-
cussion, It was decided to
send a gift of money to Ewart
College, Toronto: Members
will attend the World's Day
of Prayer to be held in South
Kinloss. Church on March S.
A timely reading by Mrs.
J. E. Little was enjoyed.
The Glad' Tidings review
was given by Mrs. James
Smith. She spoke on, What it
means to be a, Christian in
China. China is a country of
one billion people and Chris-
tianity is slowly . gaining
ground, she `said.
Mrs. Austin Loree had
charge of .the • mission study,
Neighbours or Strangers. A
discussion among the mem-
bers broughts out many int-.
eresting things about our
ancestors. We must be aware
that there are many different -
religions practiced. in .Can-
ada, ' and we must consider
how this fact affects the way
we live and work.
The president thanked the
hostess and those who had
helped in-; any way. Mrs:
William Porteous closed the
meeting. with prayer and a
social hour followed:
Area Arabian gelding wins
AHAEC competition

A local purebred Arabian
Gelding, "Andgor Abnaa";
owned and ridden by Christy
Messenger, has won the year
end award'for Open Compe-
tition ' given by ' A.H'A.E.C.
(Arabian Horse Association 1
of Eastern Canada).
Abnaa received a point for
every horse that he ' placed
above in Open Competition
in 1981,. The classes must be
open to all sizes and breeds
of horses and riders of any
age. His total score was 214
points, the highest in East-
ern Canada.
Presentationwas made
January 23rd at the Vallhalla
Inn at Kitchener..

The monthly meeting . of
the Purple Grove Women's
Institute was. ,held on snowy,
blustery Feb. 3 at 2:00 pm.
Deanna Scott opened the
meeting. Sandra Forrester
read the scripture, which
was Psalm 9& Theroll call
was ' answered by 21
members. They were asked
to wear a funny hat .or pay a
50 cent' fine. There were a lot
of hats that made everybody
laugh. They welcomed two
guests and thirteen children.
A short meeting followed.
They decided not to make
any quilts for charity this
winter.
Mrs. Giselle Ireland, whh
was to be guest speaker was
unable to come, on account
of the weather. -
Convenor, Gladys Arnold,
conducted a contest on
Bruce County.She then read
two articlesout of'the Fall
eg 1,982- 15
1981 issue of the Home and
Country about the Basics of
Effective Speaking and Con-
ducting a' Committee
MeetinIrene Boyle led a rousing
'sing -
Janet Rhody then con-
ducted three contests. The
winners were Deanna Scott,
Joyce Farrell, and Marion
Emerson. They then had a
bit of humour from Mary
Thompson, 'flay Robertson,
Mary Ellen Riwaan
and Irene Boyle.
Sandra Forrester thanked
the, quilting class for helping
with her quilt.
Janet Farrell donated a
pot holder and hot pad which
were raffled off. Maryce
Cale and Ann McCosh were
the lucky winners.
The meeting closed with O
Canada and Grace.
A lovely valentine lunch of
cupcakes, ,pink ice cream
and tea was served 'by San-
dra Forrester, Aetna Gillies
and Mary Ellen Rimmelz-
w.
