Winter storm weather disrupts Ripley activities
By Ab Wylds
Inclement weather for the
third consecutive week end
in this month of January 1982
has disrupted all planned ac-
tivities all over Western On-
tario.
Everyone was listening to
the Wingham radio C.K.N.X<
Announcements of
postponements, cancella-
tions,
ancellations, road and weather con-
ditions and they did.. a• good
job of getting this informa-
tion out.
Accidentsand fires hap-
pened as a result of the bliz-
zard.
litzard. Delbert Hedley lost his
tome in Kinlough to fire on
the week end. Deb is known
to several here fromthe
years he worked .on the
Bruce County roads through
Ripley namely the 8th con-
cession and . the 15th north
and south.
Around noon on Saturday
January 16, a week ago last
Saturday, Mr... and' Mrs.
Ralph Karnitschky in their
pickup truck drove one mile
east along the smith conces-
sion of Huron township to the
15th corner.
With the snow blizvd get-
ting worse all the time, it
was a "white out" with zero
visibility at the corner. So
the truck was parked on the
shoulder of the concession
road rather than risk the,
danger of continuing their
trip into Ripley.
Ralph and Lilian Kar-
nitschky took shelter in the
new home of Ralph. and Jen-
ny Numan at the, comer.
There they stayed till Sun-
day noon with Mr. and Mrs.
Numan.

Friday. His wife Freda and
his father Elmer drove down
to London and brought him
back to his home on the 10th
west. At Friday noon the
week before while working
with a grain auger at. the
seed plant in Ripley, Lynn
suffered painful injuries to
his left forearm,
His grandfather Harold
Courtney drove hum to Kin-
cardine hospital. After the
week end blizzard his wife
Freda drove him to Univer-
sity Hospital in London.
There were two breaks in the
bones between the wrist and
elbow involving the ulna and
radius, also a bone chip in
one of the wrist bones.. The
doctors operated on the arm
on Tuesday of last week and
put it in a. specialcast to
allow treatment of the cut
suffered in the accident.
Lynn was on the 9th floor at
the hospital.
Also in a neighbouring..

Passed away
Sympathy goes to Mrs.
Carol (Bill) . Johnson, the
nurse at the Ripley Medical
Clinicon the passing of her
mother last welt.
On Saturday afternoon Bill
Johnson of Highway 9 using
his large tractor and large
three auger snowblower cut
away the big 'snow bank.
which was hindering vision
at the main intersection cor-
ner in Ripley. The snow was
blown into Gore Park and
the comer is now safer for
traffic..
Memories'of the winter of
1947 when for three weeks it
snowed every day and the
roads were all blocked even
the railway. It was really
dry in Riley. No cars could
go to the store in Walkerton
and no shipments from the
store in Palmerston were
able to come into Ripley. .
