Winter storm creates havoc for third straight weekend
• Biter east winds reaching 70 kilometres
an hour created hazardous driving condi-
tions, on Friday night when most major
highways in the area were 4osed due to nil
visibility and drifting snow.
Highway 4 was, only open to one lane of
traffic at noon on Saturday as road crews
worked to clear away clogged conditions
made worse by the number of ithandoned
cars and trucks left in the snow drifts
• overnight.
• Department of Highways snow blowers
worked through the day to open the roads to
two lanes again in time for the new snow and
windswhich had shifted to the west to arrive
in the early evening.
• To make conditions worse, rain on.
Saturday morning during unusually high
temperatures Tor the past several weeks,

made snow removal more difficult.
• On Sunday snow squafldrwen by high
winds closed roads to travel again and most
major highways including highway 8 west of
Mitchell, highway 21 north of Bayfield and
highway 86 west of Listowel had very poor -
driving conditions. Highway 4 south of,
Wingham was dosed because of abandoned
cars and trucks stuck in the drifted snow and
it remained closed until after 9 a.m.
Monday.-

School and St. Joseph's Community School.
Kingsbridge were closed because township
roads were not open. Lucknow Central
Public School was ciperi and Lucknow
Christian School was closed.
Whiteouts on Sunday created treacherous
driving conditions and a family of four from
Forest was killed when their car was struck
by a truck, as they proceeded south on

so poor, just before the accident. •
Dead are Gerald Richardson, 25, his wife,
Terina Lou, 24, and their sons, Gerald Jr., 2
and. Justin, 8 months.
