A record low of 45.0 C. recorded in 1918 was broken when the thermometer dip- ped to -28.0 C for r January 3. Another 'record was broken January 4 when the low recorded was -32.0 C break- ing the previous record low of -24.4 C; set in 1958. The highest the, temperature reached over the two day period was -19.2 C. Lucknow's Noisy Lady placed first in the 7;000 and 9,000 pound modified classes in the LL1980 Great Lakes Tractor Pullers' Association standings. Born in Mornington Township, Perth. County, Mrs. Phillips and her late. husband, Elmer, farmed in Michigan before moving. to Pompano Beach. Florida. Mrs. Phillips moved to .Kit- chener to live with her sister and then lived with her niece in Wingham before becom- ing a resident at Pinecrest. Two Lucknow men receiv- ed minor injuries when their vehicles struck head on dur- ing a snow storm March 17. David Finnigan and Leonard MacDonald, both of Luck - now, were involved in the accident on Huron County Road 1 just south of Luck - now. Four Lucknow area men were charged with several counts of break and enter, possession of weapons and three ' charges of possession of drugs, following simultan- eous raids on their resident- es, March 26. The study's report was deliv- ered to the federation at their April meeting. A Brights Grove man drowned April 4, when high winds tipped over a canoe on Lake Huron near the mouth of the Nine. Council requested a copy of the Wingham and District Hos-"�" pital's financial statement, which they intended to look overbefore committing any village money to the hospit- al's building fund. Employees at Wingham and: District Hospital were awarded a nine per cent increase in wages and salar- ies, effective April 14. This is an interim settlement and the final settlement will probably be higher. Finance committee chairman Dr. Al Williams noted that as a result of protracted negotia- tions with the Canadian Union of Public Employees and a -number of other unions representing nurses and hos- pital employees, the hospital staff had not had a -pay raise for '18 months.
