Shower Once again on Wednesday evening the basement of the Ashfield Presbyterian Church was all lit up for, a shower for, one of the young ladies of the community. This time it was for Brenda Culbert, daughter of .Elmer and Edna Culbert. `Her wed- ding is to take place, on Friday, November 13. There was quite a nice crowd attended the shower. Brenda had her sister, Mrs. George (Andrea) MacDonald and Barbara Carter to help her withher many presents. Mrs. 'Mayme Wilkins read the address., Mrs. Betty Moncrief was mistress . of ceremonies. Mrs. Beryl Mac- Donald, Heather and Bonnie Hackett sang. Mary Ellen . MacKenzie did some tap dancing. Mrs. Ruth Mac- , ' Kenzie gave a couple of selections on the accordian. Elizabeth Wilkens conducted a names bingo. Thisseemed to be something `new .and was enjoyed by many of the ladies. After the many lovely presents were opened Bren- da thanked the ladies for the gifts and those that were responsible for organizing it. A bountiful lunch was then served by the ladies of the community. Social News Mr. and Mrs. George Mac- Donald spent a few days last week in Chicago Illinois. Ewan and Marj MacLean , were visiting friends in Oak- ville on the weekend. Dr. Russell • and Lesley Moncrief were, visiting a classmate of Russell's and his wife at Grand Valley last Friday. Last Friday evening Jack and Marion Smith of Dun- gannon visited with Welling- - ton, Kae and Jim Webster. Elizabeth Wilkins, daugh- ter of Mr. and Mrs. Charles Wilkins, was guest speaker at the Rebecca Lodge meet- ing last Tuesday evening in Goderich. Elizabeth . told them about her trip to New York City early last summer. Ross and Jean MacKenzie had Walter and Isabel For- ster of Ripley, Bill and Bar- bara MacKenzie and their their three daughters, Cher- yl, Amanda and Wendy of Goderich visit with them on Thursday. Mrs. Janet Wilkins and daughter, Laura and: Mrs. Mayme Wilkins were in Bur- lington on Sunday visiting with Janet's parents, Evan and Jean Hoffman. - Mr. and Mrs. Charles Wil- kins. Lloyd Irwin and Mrs. Stell ' Irwin went to Toronto on Friday to attend Doug Reach's wedding on Satur- day. Doug is Mayme's neph- ew. Alvin • Matheson and his son, , Gary, of Colorado Springs, Colorado. visited with •his sister and . broth- er-in:law, Mr. and Mrs. Elmer Culbert. Ripley lady plays contest By Ab. Wylds About fifteen minutes before , noon on Tuesday of last week. Mrs. Merle (Jim) Tout of Ripley received a phone call from Sandy Thompson, CKNX radio an- nouncer, calling for the daily Stampede Contest. Mrs. Tout had filled in her contest form at Bain's Groceteria in Lucknow and had no idea that she would be called: In- cidentally the designated store for that day was . the Hetherington Shoe Store in Seaforth. Back home to Ripley ,and. her apartment in Huronvilla, is Mrs. Eileen Nesbitt who was in Kincardine and bistrict Hospital. Home visiting Doug Peterbaugh of Con- estoga College, Waterloo, was home for a short visit with his parents Don and Ruby Peterbaugh and his sisters Lorrie and Shirley this past weekend. ' Home to Malcolm Street in Ripley this past weekend was Niels Frederiksen from Kiricardine. Miss Jean MacDonald of the Pinecrest Manor Nurs- ing Home in Lucknow was home for a couple of days. In attendance at last Fri- day's convocation at Waterloo were Mrs. Margaret Ferguson of Lucknow and daughter Carol. - Ron's tnoth'br and sister and Francis and Irene Boyle and Kerry Boyle. Proud grandparents of Ron Ferguson are John and Helen McMurchy now living in Lucknow but formerly of the Sixth Concession West in Huron Township, • Viliting with John and Helen McMurchy in Lucknow on Sunday was Francis Williams of Bowmanville. By order dated the 30th day of September, 1981, the Chairman of the Environmental Assessment Board and the Chairman of the Ontario Municipal Board established a joint board with respect to a hearing on the undertaking. Ontario Hydro has advised the Hearings Registrar that it will, by October 31, 1981,submit to the Minister of the Environment an en ironmentel assessment of an; electric transmission system expansion program for Southwestern Ontario end that Copies of the environmental` assessment may be obtained free, of charge after that date from: Mr. J,.1 Wilson Manager, ^ • . The Ministry of the Environment has advised the joint board that this notice will be published in a newspaper having general circulation in,the area which is or maybe affected by the undertaking. , The purpose of the hearing is to enable the joint board to make any decision and order regarding: (a) (i) the acceptance or amendment and acceptance of the environmental assessment; (ii) whether approval to proceed with the undertaking in respect of which the environmental assessment was submitted, should or should not be given; (iii) whether the approval mentioned in clause (ii) should be given subject to terms and conditions,. and if so, the provisions of such terms and conditions; (b) . (i) all official plan amendments and restricted area by-law amendments which may be necessary for this undertaking; • - (ii) all consents which may be required pursuant to section 29 of the Planing Act for the acquisition of property rights for this undertaking; and liii) all minor variances which may be required pursuant to section 49 of the Planning Act for this undertaking; (c) whether the taking of lands is' fair,' sound 'and reasonably necessary- in the achievement of the objectives of Ontario Hydro; . (d) whether approval of such expropriations, with or without modifications, as may be required to carry out this undertaking should or should not be given; - (e) (i) any amendments to the Niagara Escarpment Plan which may be necessary for this undertaking; and , - (ii) any development permits Which may be required for this undertaking in accordance with the Niagara Escarpment Planning and Development Act; and (f) any amendments to the Parkway Belt Plan which may be required for this undertaking.
