arm credit rate increase
additional burden to farmers
"A resounding blow was
dealt to the;. agriculture corm./
munity within Canada and
even more ' specifically to
farmers within Ontario with
the Federal government's
announcement of increased
interest rates for the" Farm
Credit Corporation pro-
gram," Marie Bright, Coor-
dinator for Ontario Region of
the National Farmers Union,
said October 9 in Guelph.
"It never ceases to amaze
me that government still
promotes a cheap food policy
in Canada and refuses to be,
accountable for their actions.
Farmers have just about bore
all the burdens they can
withstand: This just . may be '
the straw that breaks the
farmers' backs:"
Eugene Whelan has stated
that he will resign if some-
thing isn't done in the next
few' weeks to bring relief to
farmers, practical and work-
able relief. It would seem to
me Eugene' Whelan is saying
without the support of the
farmers the liberabl ;govern-
ment will .continue to make.
farmers the scapegoat and to
do anything about the situa-
tion all ;farmers in Canada
need to make their voices
heard in the very near future.

Bright. Farmers will have to
