last Saturday for the big
Teeswater fall fair. Once
again it was that time of
year when all roads in this
area lead eastward to
Teeswater.
Every dry day from the
middle of August up to the
Thursday : just before , the
Ripley Fall Fair on Friday
and Saturday September 25
• and 26 Dotig Martyn could be.
seen working outside the
west end ' of the Ron
Nicholson Ripley Welding
and Machine Shop.
Well with ' the welding
torch ;lie was building a . real
big machine calleda land
leveller. One of the in-
terested spectators was Gor-
don
or-don Greenwood of the
Wniversity of <Saskatchewan
in Saskatoon. After both
Doug and Ron talked to Gor-
don who . was visiting with
relatives Evelyn and Jack,
Johnson, Ron gave . him a
couple of pictures of the first
land leveller built early sum-
mer to take back to the West.
Ron and Doug built'
this
• first one last April and May
and found that : it took ' up
most of the . indoor floor
space. Ken Martin of Kincar-
dine township now has this
first machine.
Ori the Monday afternoon
following the fair this second
one was taken to the faun of
Murray Wilken on the 4th,
Concession west of Reids
Corners. The land leveller is
a big massive machine new
to this part of Ontario and in
keeping with,thenew trend
in big farming.
In the days just before the
Ripley fair Doug painted it
and . it was in the fall fair
parade and was parked later -
north ,of the tennis -courts by
the Complex.. Heremany.
