The Ripley Agricultural Society hel4 its October monthly meeting on Thanksgiving Monday even- ing in the high . school cafeteria. ; This was the first meeting after the fall fair. Ron and Doug built' this • first one last April and May and found that : it took ' up most of the . indoor floor space. Ken Martin of Kincar- dine township now has this first machine. Ori the Monday afternoon following the fair this second one was taken to the faun of Murray Wilken on the 4th, Concession west of Reids Corners. The land leveller is a big massive machine new to this part of Ontario and in keeping with,thenew trend in big farming. In the days just before the Ripley fair Doug painted it and . it was in the fall fair parade and was parked later - north ,of the tennis -courts by the Complex.. MacKenzie ll Jeff Gibson OnMonday, October 5 the junior and senior boys and girls competed in a soccer. tournament in Goderich. The juniorboys gave a very good effort but came up short of a championship: They lost their. final. game on penalty shots. The team received a pennant for runnerup. The senior boys also came up on the short end. Their team also received a pennant for runner up. We would like to thank the coaches for their time and the junior and senior girls and boys for their participa- tion. ' - OnTuesday; October 6 the school had a . short film on bus , safety. We hope that each and every person will obey these rules, to make a safer ride. We also smarted the Choc= late bar and Mojo sale on Tuesday. Everything seems to be going well and we hope that the participation will keep up until 'the , end on October 23. The . proceeds from the sale will be put towards paying for. the crea- tive •playground that was ' built here duringthe sum- mer. We started a Cross Canada run three weeks ago and we have reached Toronto. By this we mean that we have run 2100 kilometers. We tab- ulate this by totalling the. laps which .each , person runs around the track at schoot. Tantalizing odours wafted alont the corridor on Friday as various classes tried their hands at cooking. Grades 2, 3 and 4 with Mrs. Graham and Mrs.Tebbutt enjoyed pump- kin pie made from pumpkins cut up and cooked at school. Mrs. Young made jello with her grade 1 class. Mrs. Jolly`s grade 1 class had applesauce made in a crock - pot from apples which the children brought to school. A pot heck supper was enjoyed consisting of a vari- ety of different kinds . of luncheon meat, potato and macaroni salad, pickles, buns, lettuce salad and homemade french dressing, devilledeggs, carrots, celery and chase.
