to Cardiff. Prior to the presentation, For-
tune said she had read ,the letters as they
came in. She said the letters made her feel
"sad, frustrated, desperate, and angry".
These feelhkgs were vented, not at the let-
ter writers, but at the situation the
economy
She related how in one of the letters,. a
.person who had been farming for 25 years
didn't know what • he was going to do,
because next year he would have no equity
left. •
Cardiff said following the presentation
that it was the largest mutter of letters he
had ever received. He said "agriculture
has been given another blow", with the an-
nouncement that day. that interest on
government loans to farmers increased to
10.75 percent from 14 percent.
In a lighter moment, Russell Bolton of
McKillop Township was presented with the
Huron County Award for his involvement
in the Federation of Agriculture. Norman
Alexander made the presentation and read
\,vut a long list of Bolton's ac-
complishments. ----- *
It was the sixth year for the award.

•During the elections, two resolutions
. • were presented to the ism members and
• were carried. •
The Mitt resolution, to be brought to the
provincial level when fees are* discussed,
resolves that the federation's ISM
• . Membership increase. is noted in the
•
resolution, which states there is not suffi-
cient revenues for the federation to service
the farmers. The increase would be effec-
tive January 1,1982.
The second resolution stated the federa-
tion's committee on hydro should evaluate
and question the power line transmission
study for southwestern Ontario and that
the federation instruct the cotmnittee to
participate in the study to protect
agricultural land.
