Sitting at the back of the Complex flung in the Judges Award earth for the grain' show former secretary Ab Wylds noted this in charge of { the different displays nearby were all past presidents, They were Stewart Needham and Leiter Ferguson for the. roots and vegetables, Austin Martin for the fruits, and in the grain show itself Gordon Patterson,' Jim tirooka# and Hugh Mason. Lots of fair retailts Our thanks goes to secretary Don MacTavish ' for calling around Sunday affternoon with infornnation on the outside show last Saturday. The parade Was good. There were no hitched teams in it anda ample of . floats missed out. As soon as the rain stopped the O.P.P. band struck out and all the rest of the parade fell Into their places. One thing about country folks is the way they adapt to unexpected situations. Since the grounds were wet the horses were shown on the line 'for judge Walter Forster and. those watching. Directors lay Puller, Keith van der Hoek, Jinn MacDonald, and Blake Lofton had all the classes shown as listed in the prize list. 'his was to prevent any accidents and also. save the expensive clean show har- ness from being covered With mud, Don mentioned these horsemen as present Edgar Hughes of the 12th con. Huron township, George Gregg and sons of Paisley, Ross Young of Tiverton,. Omar Brooks of Lucknow, Ken Lamont of Tiverton, Len Meyers of Walkerton and Morgan Nixon° of Wiarton. Director Mrs. Nina Wyld of the sixth concession west in Huron township got the saddle horse show away to an early start at nine Saturday morning and as a result only the four rodeo events . and two others in-. volving jumping . were cancelled so when the rains poured down.from eleven till twelve last Saturday mor- ning her show was at .least three quarters ,completed. Don MacTavish reports that there were just .about a thousand birds in the poultry, show in. the Huron township hall. In the big' tent about a hundred goats. were in the \goat show. Proud of the parade.' • Watching the parade from the front doorofthe Complex with Mrs. Marjorie Thorn- .pson we noticed the orange in the parade .route- once it was in the park.. Instead of .going acrosssihe infield of the park it came'along the back of Knox Shed west to end of the: pavement and there made a "V" turn.going back' along the north .. side of the pavement in front of the complex and back out, jack and . Linda Campbell of Aniberley and their .com- mittee can , be proud of the parade led by the O.P.P. band. Don Dawson of Olivet and a member of the Kin- cardine O.P.P. detachment is a piper with the band. The pavement laid last fall was appreciated last Saturday as the folks lined the parade route without standing and` Walking. In mud and water. pools. At one point late in the morning consideration was given to holding the .opining ceremonies, in the Complex. John Farrell assisted by Robbie Sutton held the sheep shearing demonstration at the back door of theCom- plex. The changes in the horse showwere mentioned above, Otherwise when the. sky cleared from noon on through theafternoon the fair was carried through to the end.The president of the lady directors just brought the following note which says it all — "what a great fair we had, This does not just happen, A lot of work is done by the exhibitors, but behind the scenes by ,the directors, men and women.
