Last Thursday evening on
the CBC late television news
'Knowlton Nash had a picture
' of an elevator 'operator ,on
the Canadian Prairles. This
man had . been fined eight
.thousand dollars for break -
Mg the law two or three
years ago.
His misdemeanor believe
believe
it nor not, was allowing the
farmers in his area to store
their extra wheat in the
elevator. This extra wait
• over the. quota ,allowed by
the wheat board or pool. Well
Canada has come to quite a
state of affairs. It went on to
tell that the farmers banded
together and helped to pay
the fine. •
Now weknow that farmers
have common sense. This.
has been shown right here in
Western Ontario where work
bees, are still formed to help
'another farmer in distress.
They understand: that state-
ment "In the sweat of thy
face thou shalt eat bread".
Canada - -what kind of a
country have we got?
Next this came 'news story
stated that , these same
farmers who overstored.
beyond the Wheat Pool quota •
willbein court next year.
• Then all. of us know about
the.present strike at
Thunder Bay. Would It not be
great if our country could get
rid of all strikes? If we do
not, then . they will ruin
Canada.
Fortunately in the Ripley
uron` area. the T xa►in
elevators have no ` such
restrictions. Both Mike
Snobelen Who operates the
grain dryer and elevator on
the Fourth.Concession West
in Huron township and Jim
Scott, two blocks north of
Ripley on the 15th road, who
operates the Ripley dryer
and elevator, are both
farmers. Further "those who
help them are either farmers
or have worked. on farms.
Well lasts Friday and
Saturday the` "sun carne out
making, it possible to again
start harvesting. The hue of
the Ripley elevator was a
welcome sound again.
Wayne Kerr of. the South
Line was away on Saturday
and Jim MacDonald of the
12th Coneession West took
his place running the Ripley
elevator. "

Semi-finals . last Friday
Russia put out the . Czecks
and Canada over the U,S.'.by
the same score 4 to 1 in each
game, So the stage was set
for Russia . and Canada to
meet in, the Montreal Forum
with a capacity crowd over
17,000. By periods the score
was ' oneto one at the. first,
three to one at the end of the
second, and eight to one at
the third.
This writer thinks that
hockey games should be
shortened to two periods.
After all around here .ball
games are no longer nine in-
nings just seven..

Further in sports, the
Sports Section of the London
Free . Press newspaper last
Saturday Sept. 12 had a page
