On Monday .evening of last
week, Aug, 10, the Ripley
Agricultural Society held its
regular monthly meeting in
the Ripley high school
cafeteria. Sixteen of the :ex-
ecutive and directors attend-
ed to plan for the fall fair on
Friday and Saturday Sept. 25
and 26.
' They were Ab Wylds, Don
and -Anna MacTavish, Grace.
Peet, John Gamble, Wilma
and Cecil Sutton, Robert
Osborne, Kermit ,;Goodhue,
Bob Forster, Linda Camp-
bell John and Joyce Farrell,
Doug Martyn, Keith van der
Hoek, Nancy and Wayne Fit-
zgerald. Seated at the front

After the secretary red the
. minutes of the July meeting,
the president conducted an
item by item review of the
things mentioned there.
Grace Peet reported on the
big .trophy for the. Junior
Class .with; the accompany-
ing small individual trophy.
She alsoreported on the food
booths, for the fair.The
Recreation Association
would :run- the one in the
Complex for the Pair Board, •
the president>reported.
Cecil. Sutton and Kermit;
. Goodhue had reports on the
tent. Bob Forster said that
• the annual frog jumping
competition is already setto

summary report - on the
finances. AIso'he was given;
approval onthe purchase of
a new electric calculator.
Bob Osborne reported on the
• 4H Clubs:
The new seating bleacher
constructed by the' Ron
Nicholson Metal Shop in
Ripley is now in place at the
ball park. Count :shows that
the Ripley Agricultural.
• Society now has . thirteen
bleachers there for use at the
ball'gameii and of course at
the fall fair." Several other
items were discussed such
as the school dancing. This
. was left to Morley Scott to
contact the" teachers con-
cerned in September.:.
The September meeting
.. wd be on Monday evening
the 14th with the first work
bee :meeting at the Complex
on the next Monday evening.
Grain club meeting
Last Thursday evening the
Ripley Kincardine 414 Grain
Club met in the Ripley high
school cafeteria. The club
had a full attendance of its
lien members Donald Hart -
wick, Paul Keelanll Paul
Harris, Matthew Dahmer,
Dale Robinson, Sandra
Brown, Join Osborne, Sheila
Osborne, Steve and Kenneth
Brown, leaders Grant Col-
lins and Harry H'o
The regular meeting from
seven thirty to eight was
Balled to order by Grant.
Minutes, reports, planning a
trip and a qui;, followed.
Fran and Ab Wylds then
had a two hour teaching and
working session with, the
members and leader; on
grain sheaf building And
what a wonderful group of
willing workers they proved
to be. Itrecalled for Fran
and Ab their years at
teaching and what an ° en
joyable . and easy thing
teaching can really be.
After it was over everyone
joined in using the brooms
and mops left by custodian
Mrs. Sandra McCallum in
cleaning the tables.. and
floors of waste grain and put-
ting the chairs back. This is
something which we would.
like to,see the adults do just
once after their meetings,
namely put back the chairs
in place.
Heine from tour
Mabel and Norm. Barnard
returned recently to their
home in Ripley from a three, .
week cross Canada bus tour
right to Victoria. on Van-
couver Island. They report a
wonderful time; seeing 'such
scenic places as Banff,
Jasper, and ,, Lake Louise,.
and attending . the Calgary
Stampede. Including the bus
driver- and the tour ' escort
there were forty people in
the bus - one of the Dunner
Tours based in Lindsay, On-
tario.
Visiting in Ripley
Jean MacDonald of . the
Pinecrest Manor. Nursing
Home Staff in Lucknow
visited last Thursday and
Friday with ' her sister.

Car wash for ,'Brownies,
Guides
Next Satuday, August 22,
at the Huron Township Work
Garage,at the east end of
Malcolm Street there will be
a car wash. It is in support of
the Ripley Girl Guides and
Brownies and run by the
Mothers Committee. Also
later in the fall they are go-
ing to hold a waste paper
drive. So store those old
papers in a dry place to help
the local girls..
Went to Bel1.Reunion
Donald and Angela Bell of
Islington, ' 'Metro Toronto
have been at their Ripley
home on.Ripley Street. While ..
here Mr. and Mrs. Bell at-
tended the Bell ' Reunion.

On Sunday, August 9, an
ideal simmer day,the
descendants of the late Alex-
ander Bell and Effie
Cameron met at the Bradley
School Community Centre to
celebrate the Oth Annual Bell
family reunion. Those pre-
sent trvelled from Chesley,
Toronto, Baxaul in India,
Burnaby .in B.C., St.
Thomas, . London, Under-
wood, Armow, • St.
Catharines, Islington, Strat-
ford, and Glamis.
Following grace given by
Gordon Bell of London, a
delightful dinner " was en-
joyed by all, highlighted by
the presentation of a 40th
wedding anniversary cake to
Wib and Peggy Cassidy of
Underwood. At the conclu-
sion of a brief business•
meeting Mirabeille
McTavish entertained the
gathering with her talented
singing. •. ..
Dry'. Aletta Bell, senior
medical .superintendent of
Duncan Hospital, Baxaui,
North India, related in-
teresting incidents which oc-
curred during her recent
.6000 mile motor trip across
e U,S.A. and back.
Dr. Aletta Bell"then gave a
short talk supported by a
slide presentation covering
sortie aspects of her
medicinal missionary work
in North.India. Climatic and
other conditions. prevailing
in India are conducive to an
exceptionallyhigh rate of in-
cidence of optical problems,
particularly cataracts on the'
eyes. Dr. ' Bell operates an
annual eye clinic at which
hundreds of low income peo-
ple are successfully treated
free of charge.
The reunion closed with a
moving prayer ofthanksgiv-
ing and intercession for Dr.°
Aletta Bell and her mission
hospital in India given by

Edging the sod •
Two students, Doug Peter-
baugh and Darryl Robinson
using digging spades have
done a good job of "sod edg-
ing" the sidewalks. in Ripley.
They have trimmed, the
grass sod from both sides of
the concrete so that now the
rain water will drain away.
They have ;also cleaned the
walks where necessary.
Playschool hay ride
" The three leaders of the
RipleySttimmer Play"School,
Barbara Grubb, Nancy, Mao-
Donald and; Debbie Steven-
son "arrange& for the girla
and boys of the school to
have a hay ride. So at noon
last Wednesday , seated on
bales. on a wagon behind a
tractor they made a tour of
the village streets. The
wagon wasdecoratedwith
cards and • colorired bellow;
and the children had an en-
joyable tune.

Here they boarded the Polar
Express train on the Nor-
thern ' Ontario Rahway for
the 200 mile trip down to
' Moosonee ' on James Bay.
Thenthey went by canoe
across to Moose ' Factory
Island where ' they viewed
ancient buildings ofthe early
explorers about 300 years
ago. Moosoneehas become a
popular tourist attraction. '
From there: Ray and
Margaret, Ambrose and
Marion, travelled across
country into Quebec where
they spent three days with a
sister' of Marlon, Margaret
MacDonald, at Blue Sea
Lake.
