A bill passed in the Ontario. Legislature in July permits municipalities in the province to charge 1 % per cent over prime on overdue tax accounts; which should, alleviate' the problem. Municipalities find it difficult' to plan because so. many people aretaking advantage of the cheaper rate charged on tax arrears leaving some Municipalities in . the province short of funds: Reeve .George Joynt said he will be contacting Tom Wells, minister of intergov- ernmental affairs for the correct wording of the by-law so .that council can put the motion, into affect, Once they have the wording for the byy acv, council will be issuing Notices to . overdue taxpayers that the interest charge being increased.
