As dawn broke on Tuesday
morning ,of last week, July
28, the first real rain was
falling over the whole area
around Ripley. It was the
rain that the folks had been
hoping would corse all dur-
ing July but each time the
;sky darkened the rains went
around ;this area. The gain
continued during last Tues-
day morning and soon the
street gutters were filled
with running water.
However that was a week
ago.. Now the heavy.
Brookston Clay soil in this.
areais again dry and crack-
ed open;
Ring around the sun
Last spring on -Sunday
April.. 26 Walter Forster of
Ripley reported a large
white ring around the sun.
On Monday . afternoon last
week John Adams of the Kin-
cardine
P.U.C. while 'work-
ing in Ripley noted another
circle around the sun. On
both occasions the high cir-
rus cloud formation in the
sky was similar and both
times rain followed. Well we
had a nice shower this .Mon-

New poles installed
The Kincardine P,U.C.
truck and its crew - John
Adams, Ken Hoover and
Early Kay were in Ripley on
Monday of last week. They
installed the poles for a new
hydro line to serve the
Ripley District Community
Centre Complex. The line
will join the Ripley hydra
'near the railway crossing by
the Ripley Chopping Mill,
Survey work was done, by
Larry Carter working for
John . C. Wood, public land
surveyor in Kincardine.

underwent surgery in Kin-
cardine and District hospital.

Calling around for a visit
on Monday morning was 'Dr,
Donald John McDonald, Dr,
McDonald, his wife Pat and
family three sons Scott,
Steve, Duff, and daughter
Julie flew into Toronto air-
• port on July 23 from Reyadh
("ire -add") in Saudi Arabia;
After a month's visit in
Canada . they will leave
Toronto .airport on Wednes-
day, August 19 to Rome then
Athens and Reyadh,
"Doc Donald John" as, he
was known in his years at the
Ripley .District High School
says hopefully that they will
be back for another visit
next year. At present he is
the chairman of the (Depart
meat ' of Obstetrics . . and
Gynecology in the King.
Faisal Specialist Hospital
and Research Centre built in
1078 and one + of the most
modern medical centres in
the world,
It is always nice to have a
visit . with Donn and ex-
change stories. While here
he was visiting with his
mother Mrs. Mary (John A.)
McDonald and his aunt Mrs.
Elizabeth 'Pair, and also all
his other relatives in; the
area. Donnie, Pat, ,.Scott,
Steve, Duff & Julie motored
back ,to. Toronto on Monday
noon - about an hour after
this visit. While here he also
had a talk with Joy and
Gebrge Mclean,

When talking on the phone
with Mrs. Oliver McCharles
of Kincardine the other day,
shetold me about the trip
she and Oliver had in June.
They were ' in Cape Cod,
Massachusetts, and came up
along the coast of Maine into
New Brunswick and into -
Nova Scotia and Prince Ed-
ward Island. It was nice
weather all the time they
were away, they arrived
heat about the first of July.
Allan Irwin and son Kevin
of Oshawa were visiting their
aunt" and uncle, 'Mr, and
Mrs: Charles • Wilkins the
other day. ,

tending the annual Craft
Festival priday and Saturday

his grandparents for a' holi-

'spent a few days with Mr.
and Mrs.. A.G. Mitchell at
Kincardine Garden Estates
and visited with his brother
Redvers in Kincardine
hospital, and otherrelatives
and friends in the area. He
returned home to Toronto on
the Sunday afternoon bus.

this week on vacation with
her mother Myrna and hus-

Funtral'held
The funeral service for
Mrs. Kathleen ' Fraser of
Toronto was held last
Wednesday afternoon in the
MacKenzie McCreath'
Funeral Home in Ripley. In
terinent in Ripley Cemetery
followed. Mrs Fraser, 81, is
survived by :cher husband,
two sons, and four grand -
