inlough ladies say farewell to minister's wife

Mrs. Bevan Stanley enter-
tained the ladies of the
village at 'her home on
Thursday at a Farewell Tea '
for Mrs. Gilbert Van
Sligtenhorst.
A short program was
given by Mrs. Tom
McDonald, Mrs. Jack Barr
and Mrs.' Glen Haldenby.
The hostess made the
presentation of a lace
tablecloth and lovely floral
table centrepiece of Wicker
with silk flower arrange-
ment onbehalf of all present.
The guest of honour ex-
pressed her deep apprecia-
tion for this kindly gesture
and said as she used it in her
Obituary
new home, it would always
be a reminder of happy
years she and her husband
and their girls enjoyed in
Kinlough. Although she
would MISS seeing us all, this
is the way the life of a pastor
and his wife is, she com-
mented. They' get called to
other areas in the Master's
Vineyard to serve Him.
•She "read the verse in the
farewell, card and it was
passed around for everyone
to sign. She invited all if ever
in the Courtright area to be
sure to come and see them.

John Fredrick Ross
John Fredrick Ross, of
Detroit, passed away on
Monday, July 20, 1981 in his
78th year, after a long'
il-
biess. He grew up in the
Lochalsh area and went to
Detroit as a young man
where he has resided ever
since. He was a son of the
late Roderick and Margaret
(nee). Ross, one .of a family
of• twelve. He leaves to
Mourn one son Earl and
daughter-in-law Joan of Bir-
mingham. Michigan, one
grand -daughter and two
grandsons. Also; one sister,
Mrs.. Mary West of Don Mills
and one brother, William of.
Lucknow. Besides his wife,
Ruth, who predeceased him
six weeks previous, on June
3rd, 1981, and his parents he
was predeceased by three
sisters and four brothers,
also two infant babies. A
memorial service was held
• in his memory in Detroit on
Saturday, July 25th, 1981.
• Burial was in Detroit.

First fall wheat
Last Thursday evening the
first red metal grain box
wagons loaded with fall
wheat arrived at the Ripley
Elevator. Among thes first
was Mark MacAuley.
Former students back
Up to Ripley for the
weekend from Brampton
were Noel MacLeod and
Frank Gemmell. It was nice
to tali again with these
former students of the
Ripley District High School,
Noel visited with his mother
Mrs: Bette MacLeod and
Frank with his parents Fran-
cis and Margaret Gemmel
Prank is the coach of the
Brampton team and he says
that he is now the co-
ordinator of elementary
education for- Peel County
with office in Cooksville.
Funeral held
Last Wednesday afternoon
the funeral service was held
in Witightun for Mrs. Archie
Parker, the former Gertrude
Robertson. She was 78 and
died on Sunday July 19 at the
Twiriberry 'Estates An
Wingloun, She is survived by
her husband Archie a former
operator of the Itipley but-
cher shop and a. daughter
Marilyn, a. graduate of the
Ripley District High School
and now in London, also two
sisters and a brother. Sym-
pathy of Ripley folks is ex-
tended at this' time of
bereavement.

Nancy and Dick Stanley of
Clarks in Huron township
visited with Ab Wylds on
Monday last week. They tbld
about beekeeping on the
Florida Keys.
On holidays
On holidays this week, and
next is Mrs. Marj (Jimmy)
MacTavish of the Ripley
Royal Bank Staff.
Visiting up here
Visiting for the week with
Oraen. and Doris Rock and
Ronald were grandson Pat
Broome of Lucknow also
Kenny McIntyre of Kit-
chener. Kenny is a twin
brother of Mrs. Gary Pollock
formerly of Ripley. Kenny
also spent a day with Mrs.
Mel Pollock on the 12th Con-
cession Huron township.
In car accident
Last Saturday just before
noon 'Rev Hugh Nugent of
Ripley was bringing back
members of his family from
the 'Wail Presbyterian
Summer Camp when the car
was inVolved in a traffic ac-.
cident. Accerding to reports
his car was making the left
hand turn from Highway 86
to the 15th or Ripley road
when it was crashed in the
rear end by another car also
travelling west to east on
Highway 86. bonnie Plud-
der, who was bringing
daughter Tammy home
from the same camp, came
on the scene. They were
taken to Kincardine hospital
where it is reported that
Cathy Nugent was kept for
further observation,
