A walk around the north
end of Ripley at noon last
Saturday July 25 showed
that therewere three main
I areas of activity at that
time. At the west end there
was the big craft show m the
Complex. Next to the east, in
the Memorial Park or ball
diamondit was the Bramp-
ton Legion Branch 15 playing
Bellwood in the men's, soft-
ball tournament Then over
the tracks there were the
grain wagons bringing
,wheat into the Ripley
Elevator.: The weather was
ideal for this annual July.
weekend in Ripley - di r and
warm except for Sunday
afternoon when a chill north
wind swept the area. While
many "folks.: worked to bring
about this'successful event,
three people should 'receive
special mention for their
role. At the Complex it was
Mrs. Marion. McCharles, at
the - ball tournament Doug
Coultes, and at the Elevator
Jim Scott.
Ripley craft show
The Ripley Craft spon-
sored by the Huron Bruce
Crafts and Arts Incor-

morning at ten and was open
to public viewing through till
late evening: and again on

Blyth.
In charge of admissions
was Omar Brooks assisted
by .Francis Gemmell and
Don MacTavish of Ripley.
As in past years the commit-
tee started early in the week
to mark out the booth spaces,"
'on the arena floor. There
was a row of .these right
around the arena and°in the
middle of the arena three
double rows. One hundred
and fifteen crafters filled
this space with wonderful
and coloured displays in
-ceramics, hooked rugs, knit-
ted and cechet ' work, art,
drawings; Metal work, wood-
work, dolls, quilts, and many
more ° crafts. • People • were
coming and going to the
arenato view the display
and purchase items.
The `arena was packed on -
Friday evening so there
must have been a few thou-
sand in total. Mrs. Jean liop=
pel of Tiverton' was the win-
ner of the afghan in the lucky
ticket draw. On . Saturday
forenoon auctioneers Grant
McDonald of the 2nd Conces-

,Starting Friday evening,
and continuing through
' Saturday and . Sunday ' a
men's softball tournament
was held in the Memorial
Park. Doug Coultes with
P.A. system . announced all
the games keeping' the fans
up to date on. the names of
the . batters, balls , and
strikes, outs and so on. Doug
also made a summary report
h
for paper.
Eight teams . took part.

Sports, Sebringville,
Beiwood, Chesley,Owen
Sound G.T.O., Brampton,

day afternoon Brampton had
a marathon twelve inning
game before eliminating
Belwood 3 to 1. Both teams
had one run at the start and
this continued to stand until
the twelfth.
Two former Ripleyites
were with Brampton namely
Fra4 Gemmell and Noel
MacLeod. Unfortunately the
regular Brampton catcher
Rick Demars . suffered a
painful tear in the ankle ten-
don making it necessary to
put ,.him on a stretcher and
into a van for Kincardine
hospital. He returned before.
the game ended 'but not to
play.
The cold wind blowing
from the north west chilled
the "fans right to the bone and
held up all fly balls making
hits which would ordinarily
be over the fenceand home
runs, easy outs for , the
fielders. - At the end of the
tournament Owen Sound was „
first, Ripley second, and
Brampton third. To win
Owen Sound had to play
