You invest in fertilizing your forage crops
Fertilization the key to higher yields
High yielding forage requires top application of plant
food. Ten tonne rJer hectare of alfalfa can produce
from 1800 to 2000 ,.ilograms of crude protein, but aiso
removes 300 kl of nitrogen; 75 kg of phosphorus ar d
275 kg of potas iut. Oh pure legume stands no
nitrogen needs to be applied. Phosphorus arc potash
are the key to hight-r yields. Ensure maximuri yields
from your forage b!,fertilizing.
Establishmerk Fertilization •
Obtaining a good stand is the first step toward
acquiring higher yields from your forage crops. A
complete fertilizer that is high in phosphorus. (40 kg
P205 per hectare) should be banded at the time of
seeding.

Maintenance Fertilizer
In order to" maintain vigorous, high yielding stands of
forages. adequate fertility is necessary. PhOsphate
and potash levels are the key nutrients for stands with
over 50% legurnes. Yields 01 10 tonnes per hectare
and over require 90 kg ot phosphorus and 210 kg of
potassium.
Achieving a high return on your
fertilizer investment
A good fertilizer program can bring you back at least
$3.00 for every dollar invested in the follPwing ways:
By increasing your yield arid quality, improving your
forage crops to drought resistance, oroducing
healthier plants, and ensuring a Ngher degree of
winter survival.
