know we ate lots of things In the raw,
such as turnips, carrots, green apples,
wild black cherries, chokecherries
wild berries of all kinds, wintergreen
berries, underground nuts, wild leeks,
beech leaves, .our gram, sorrel, slip-
pery elm bark. We chewed hemlock
and cedar gum. and for drinks we had
buttermilk. skimmed milk (when we
could get It), and water out of creeks,
ditches. ponds, 'wale hole, or wher-
ever we found water wben we were
dry. Whether there were vitamins, or
ditamins, In what we ate 'td drank 1
know not, but we flourished and grew
like a green bay tree over tdx feet,

A benefit game for Bob C anweil,
backstop of the Grand Bend eottbail
team, who suffered a broken jaw and
other injuries' In a recent game here,
will be played at Victoria Park on
Friday, at 6.30 o'clock, between t'he i
Grand Bend and Godcrtcs teams. The
injured man has been unable to wort
since hie accident, as there seems to
be some difficulty In setting tbe brok-
en bone. Although unable to eat sol-
id food or move hl* jaw, Carswell
managed, however, to murmur "I

young lady at Grand Bend last Tun -
day.

in Pollee Court on Friday last in an-
swer to a charge of aaaanit laid by
Mrs, Roderick McKay, the offence
