Last Wednesday evening,
July 8, the first Ripley Fall
Fair Queen was picked from.
10 girls ; entered. The com-
petition
ompetition was organized by
Mrs. Barbara Gamble and
Mrs. Judy. Hawrylyshyn both
of the sixth east ,in Huron
town
ship. And . the winner
was Debbie Lowry, daughter
of `Perrin ` and Marion
(MacTavish) Lowry who live
at the top of Lurgan hill at
the foot of the Fourth Con-
cession about two miles west
of Reids corners. Our thanks
goes to Mrs. Sheila.
MacDonald for giving us the
name of the Queen, the first
ever for Ripley fair in the
Ontario competition.
The remaining nine ' girls
entered were Sandra
Dawson of Olivet, Gail and.
Linda MacDonald of the 8th
Concession. west, Helen
Culbert of the 8th justeast of
Ripley, Joanne Pollock of the

Huron township hall in

Junior Olympics held

July 10, the Ripley Play
School held their Junior -
Olympic Day. The winners
were as follows. Ages 4, 5,

so did some visiting with her
dad.
Kevin Rintoul spentSatur-
day evening with his .grand-
parents, Mr. and Mrs. Joe
Corey of Clinton and on
Sunday accompanied them to
his home.
Mr. and Mrs. Gary Rintoul
and Mr. and Mrs. Alex Craig

urday evening.

The. ° first stage of the
Ladies Provincial Lawn Bowl-
ing playdowns were held on
the Lucknow greens ' this
year.
On June 27 trebles were
played with the rink of Isobel
Mille Audrey MacDonald
and Jane Treleaven being
the winners.
On July 6 doubles were
played with the rink of Mary
Finlayson and Betty Tilley of
Seaforth being the winners.
On July 9 singles were
played with Brenda Finlay-
son of Seaforth being the
• winner,
All these winners go on to
Windsor Tuesday, July 14 for
the second playdowns.
At a ladies doubles tourna-
ment on the Lucknow greens
on July 4 Nora Finnigan's
rink lof Wingham won 1st
prize. Betty Tilley's rink of
Seaforth won 2nd prize.
Audrey MacDonald and
,Thelma Brown of Lucknow
won 3rd prize and Wilma
Kerr's rink from Wingham
won 4th prize.
The Lucknow Lawn bowl-
ing club is seeking informa-
tion as to when lawn bowling
started in Lucknow. Anyone
knowing of any information
or pictires please contact

St. Helens Couple
return from trip

Mr. and Mrs. Leo Nusink,
Jonathan and Andrew of
London visited with Mr. and
Mrs. Tom Pegg on the week-
end. Mr., and Mrs. Johnston
of Ancaster visited during
the week.
Paul MacDonald of Aub-
urn visited with his grand- '
parents, Mr, and Mrs. An-
gus MacDonald.
Mr. and . Mrs. Wayne
Grigg and family vi ited with
Mr. and Mrs. Alyn Cran
sten, The girls returned
home after a week with their
grandparents.
Mr: and Mrs. Gordon Ly-
ons returned home after
vacationing for three weeks
in Ntlestern Canada. They
visited their son, Murray. of
Calgary, while in the west. A
family gathering was held on
their return. Mr. and. Mrs.
Jeff Cresskill of Listowel and
Mr. and . Mrs. John Lyons
and family attended the
gathering.

Visiting back home
Home from Uranium Qty,
Saskatchewan, is Roy
Strathdeewith his daughter
Wilma and: son John. boy is
visiting with his father ,Bob
Strathdee who lives with
Aria, Mrs. Tom Hutton of
Hanover. Roy has many
relatives to call on in this
district.

Mr. and Mrs. Ambrose
Gamble 'were guests at the
home of Mr. and Mrs. Ray
Fuller Sunday afternoon.
Mr. and Mrs.. Bruce Culbert
and Melissa of London, 'Mr.
and Mrs. Brian MacKay and
Sarah, Mr. and Mrs. Lee
Fuller of Ripleyand district
were guests also to help
celebrate their mother's
birthday.
Traveling up north
Mr. and Mrs. Keith van
der Hoek and Mr. and Mrs.
Allan Gamble spent last
week travelling, through
Northern Ontario and some
of the Northern :United
States. They. visited ,our
Hurontownship boys and
their wives, Mr. and Mrs.
,Jamie Forster and Mr. and
Mrs. Mac McInneswho have
moved to the Rainy River
district where they plan to
take up new land and make a
new home.
Eachday during the hot
sultry weather spell last
week Betty Jean. McLean.
has been busy doing exterior
painting • for her uncle
George. She has been doing
the .painting carefully, at
times • working from a lad-
der. A's:a result the store and
harness shop operated by
Joy and George McLean in
the old Commercial Hotel
shows an improved exterior
front appearance.
Sicott reunion
Mrs. Ross Cumming of
Lucknow was back to Ripley
one day last week and called
around to leave an item on a
coming event;. Amelia writes
that the annual Scott reunion
for the 'descendants of .the
late John Scott and Janet
Monilaws will be held on
Sunday afternoon July 26 in
the Lions Hall in .Tiverton.
Home to Ripley
After several weeks in
hospitals at Kincardine and
Owen Sound and a stay at
her parents .home in Kin-
cardine, Mrs: Martin Phelan
was able to return home to
Ripley last week. Folks in
this north end area are glad
to see Martin and Hilda and
their daughters Tracy and
Becky bade with the lights on
in their home again. They
wish Hilda continued''
recovery.
