Ripley couple travel to
Starting at the first of this

his week in.
Stanley flew from Toronto to '
California and from there
across the, Pacific Ocean,
Mr. and Mrs. Stanley ' will
-have a two.week vacation in
Japan.
Vacationhlg out east
Mr. and, Mrs. Russell
Philips of Lucknow and Mr.
and Mrs. Oliver McCharles
. of Kincardine have : just
returned :frorn„:a3500 mile
camphig trip to the " East
Coast . of United States and
Canada. From here they
went to Cape' Cod in
Massachusetts then backup
the Coast of . Maine into
Canada to Prince Edward
Island. In. Cape Breton they
travelled the Cabot Trail
highway. Along it they
visited a McCharles family
in Baddeck. In Fredericton,
New Brunswick they visited
with a brother and a sister of
Mrs. Jean. Phillips and their
families. They were David
Bell and Mrs. Phyllis Chap-
man. Of local interest three
more brothers in this Bell ,
family run the well known
Bell peach orchards. Arnold
Bell comes each year to they
Ripley Craft show and to the
Ripley Fall fair with his fruit
and vegetable. truck.
Back to Toronto
Returning last Thursday
to Scarborough in east Metro
Toronto was Bill Robertson.
Bill visited with friends in
this area during the early
part of last week. He
motored to Chesley one day
for a visit with Norman Mur-
ray, son of the late Mr. and
Mrs. Allan Murray. Normiar
was raised on the 8th Conces-
sion about a hall mile west. of
Ripley.
Home from hospital
On Tuesday of last week,
June 30, Donnie Fludder
underwent spinal surgery in
University Hospital in Lon-
don. Last Saturday his
brother-in-law, A J. Gardner
of Vanastra, motored to Lon-
don and Donnie was able to
come home to Ripley. Carol,
Tammy, and Jason are all
glad to have him back -.ban-
deBes and stitches included.
Leahy family concert
There was a good atten-
dance at the Leahy Family
concert l� Friday evening.
July 3. group includes
tenmembers and it was
sponsored by the Ripley.
Huron Recreation Board and
held downstairs in the Com-
plex Centre. After a two hour
concert, a dance was held
lasting till midnight. And it
was included in the one low
admission charge for the
concert. On Wednesday July
the first John Gamble did a
C.K.N.X. talk on the Bill
Thompson program concer-
ning this Family night. '
Mrs. Verna (Hicks)
Stanley of Kincardine died in
herr 82nd year on Monday
«. June 29 in Kincardine and
District Hospital. The
funeral was held last
Wednesday afternoon in the
MacKenzie McCreath
Funeral Home ire Ripley with
interment . in Kincardine
Cemetery. She is survived
by two sons and nine
daughters. One of the
daughters is Marjorie, Mrs.
Jim MacTavish of the Se-
cond Concession West hi

Huron township and also she
is a member of the Royal
Bank staff in Ripley. Also
she is survived by one sister,
grandchildren and great
grandchildren. Sympathy is
extended at this time of
bereavement.

Mrs. Minerva Stewart of

week in response to the item

Moved to Ripley
On Friday June 26, Mr.
and Mrs. Allan Tranter of.
Huron Ridge in Kincardine
moved to the Laverne and:
Joan Riley house on Ripley
Street . in Ripley. They are
having carpentry renova-
tions
enovations done by the Armstrong
brothers - Dale and Wayne of
the South Line.
Last Sunday Norm and
Mabel Barnard motored
from their home in Ripley to
Lindsay. On Monday they
boarded a Dentin Tour bus
there' and are presently on a
24 day trip across Western
Canada right to Vancouver
Island.and back.
Graduation
Ken MacKay, son of John
D. and Joan . MacKay of
Ripley recently graduated
from. Western University in
London with an Honours
Bachelor: of Science degree
in Physiology. As this writer
well knows an • Honours
degree represents higher
. marksandmore difficult
subjects than an ordinary
Pass degree and it is only at-
tempted by a few students.
Ken is to be congratulated on
this achievement:

Mrs, Adeline Hackett mov-
ed into. an apartment in the
Huronvilla . residence
building last week. Ripley
.folks are glad to see her
return from hospital.

• Cathy Fludder motored to
Hepworth last Sunday and is
spending a week on vacation
in the Sauble area with her
friend Brenda van Kooten.

Allan Irwin of Ripley is a,
patient in Kincardine and
District Hospital. '
Guests at Blyth
Last Friday evening, July
3, the directors of the Huron
Bruce Crafts Incorporated ,
were guests at the Blyth Cen-
tre for Arts as first nighters.
They saw the opening play
"Quiet in the Land". They
were included because they
had contributed to the Cen-
tre for Arts.
The plans are well on the
wav for the Annual Ripley
Arts, Crafts, and Antiques
Show and sale to be held on
Fri., and Sate, July 24 and 25
in the Ripley Huron Com-
munity Centre Complex.
Over 100 crafters have
bought space for this year's
show and they are complete-
ly sold out of space. There
are several new features this
year.
Going to Collingwood
Alice Lopers of Drayton
who has been on the staff of
the Royal Bank in Ripley has:
been transferred to the
Royal in Collingwood. Com-
ing here to replace her on
Monday of this week is Bret
Shepley. Ripley folks will
miss Alice and her red car on
the boulevard here. Our

Theladies of the Ripley
Legion Autry will have
their book sale in the Com-
plex. And the Huron Bruce
Crafts will have tables= for
the sale of bakedgoods and
garden produce. Just last
Saturday Mrs. Lauren
(Lowry) Stewart of
Orangeville formerly of
Huron twp. and Kincardine
called to see about the Craft
Show. Each year Laurens is
back for it.
Georgetown visitors
On Monday of last week,
June 29, Mr. and: Mrs.
Morley` Mills of Georgetown
were " visitors in Ripley.
Morley was. with Fran and.
Ab Wylds for an hour while
Mrs. Mills visited with Mrs.
Beattie (Mel) Pollock in her
Gerrie Glenn Apartment
near Huronvilla in the
southeast part of the village.

Here on . Tuesday after-
noon June. 30 were Alf and
Dorothy Beal : of Stratford
visiting with her sister Fran
and. Ab Wylds Dorothy and
Alfcarne up to their cottage
at Inverhuron on the
previous Friday June 26 and
planned to stay for last
week.

Just in time for the "heat
wave" days at.the end of last
week the. "new"' `swinging
doors were in place at the
front entrance to the store of
George and Joy McLean. Ac-
tually the doors just have a
new look after they were fit r
ted with new screening and
painted by Dave Henderson
at his work shop. Johnny
Smith helped George and
Joy hang them in place.

Retirement party
Mrs. W. J. 'Mackay return-
ed home to Huronvilla in
Ripley after visiting with
relatives near Oakville, and
in Milton, Ontario as well as.
her daughter and son-in-law
Mr. and Mrs. Don Anderson.
at R.R.I, Waterford. Mrs.
Mackay was a guest of honor
at the retirement open house
at North Townsend Central.
School, when her daughter,
Marion Anderson B.A.,was
wished a happy retirement
' after being principal there.
for 21 years. An estimated
500 people, old and young,
came. Marion was the first
principal of that school. She
received her B.A. degree
from McMaster University
in Hamilton in 1966.
