Roses and weddings;•
June is known as the
month of roses and wed-
dings. Well this , past
weekend three Ripley area
families had weddings. In
each case a young daughter
was the bride The families
were the Walter Forster,
Hendrick Middelkamp, . and
Joe Dickinson families.
Off to parliament n
Early Friday morning
Bobby Robertson of the
Tenth Concession and John
Ferguson of Point Clark,
both of ' Huron township,
travelled to Wingham. There
they joined a group and went
to the Parliament Buildings
in Toronto. There they met
with Murray Elston and at-
tended a session. Then they
took the two Elston cars<p
Kingston and the Onta io
Liberal convention held last
weekend there starting Fri-
day and ending Sunday..
They arrived back in
Wingham Sunday evening
before 8.
On Tuesday of last week
the Ripley Huron Legion
Hall was a busy place. In the
afternoon the . Ripley
Women's Institute held their
annual tea and bake sale in
support of the Kincardine
Hospital Auxiliary. Then in
the evening at eight the
members of -the Ripley and
District Horticultural Socie-
ty met at the Legion Hall for
their June meeting.
Hot, hazy, humid
The weather forecasts dur-
ing the early part of last wek
mentioned the 3. H's - hot,
hazy, and. humid. Monday
June 15th, 1981 it was real hot
and. humid. During ..the
afternoon black thunder
clouds were travelling north
over Lake Huron but they
did not make it over the
Ripley area till after dusk.
However, the humid air pro-
- duced
ro-
-duced something never seen
here before as far as known,
namely the "sweating" • of
the cool cement floors. At,
both the High school and
,Central Public school in
Ripley the hall floors were
covered with a layer of
water. The invisible water
vapour in the warm air turn-
ed to visible water as the
temperature of the air drop-
ped in contact with the cool
floor. Caretakers Neil Mc-
Callum and Kenny Mac-
Donald used dry mops to
take up the water. Dennie
MacDonald and son Jack
reported that each time they
pumped a fresh fill into their
tanks on the gasoline truck
the outside of the tanks were
just dripping water. That
Monday evening the writer'
was taken by surprise on
seeing the lower hall floor in
the rear of the high school -
something never seen in all
the years there.

evening, June 15, thegrain

for the Ripley fall fair prize
list. Present were Jim
Brooks, secretary Don Mac-
Tavish, John Gamble; Keith
van der Hoek, Gordon 'Pat-
terson and Ab Wylds.

Home from Labrador
The hour long television
show from 8 to '9 last Sunday
evening on CKNX Wingham
was one in the current series
"Wild Canada" by John and
Janet Foster. This par-
ticular one was called
"North to Labrador". Star-
ting in Ontario they went by
plane to Goose Bay a thou-
sand miles. From there
north another 250 miles in :a
seaplane: they went to Nain.
The plane had two engines, a
pilot and co-pilot. The .pic-
ture showed the plane lan-
ding on the water on the inlet
bay then taxiing up to the
floatingwharf or dock.
One shot showed the Inuit
or formerly Eskimo inen
playing their musical horns.
It also showed them pickin
"Crowberries or was it
"snow berries": The picture.
was :of special interest to
Fran and Ab Wylds as Diana
