Remarks made by Premier Davis at
the OFA meeting mentioning that
•producers of pork and beef had it in
their power to find their own solution
to market problems, seemed to
suggest that he favoured introduction
of marketing boards by the industries.,
The meeting was' also attended by
Federal Agriculture Minister Eugene,
• Whelan, who mentioned that interest
payments b. -farmers to, the Farm
Credit Corporation were being post-
poned • for pp to three years before
action will be taken.

Solicitor General's Estimates
The Opposition Members of the
Justice Committee continue to probe
the role of the Fire Marshall in the
problems of Ontario. Although a, pro-
gram has been established by which
the Fire/Marshall is responsible for all
• safety measures, no provisions have
been made yet by the Fird Marshall
for the funding required to increase
and train the staff.
Rent Control
The Ministry of Consumer and
Commercial Relations indicates •that
the recent Supreme Court of Canada
decision, declaring certain proVisions
of Ontario's Residential, Tenancies Act
unconstitutional, will not affect the
rent control provisions of the Resid-
ential Tenancies Act.
Under the rent control provisions of
the Act, landlordare limited to one
rent increase per year on individual
rental units, regardless of amount. In
addition, they can charge only up to a
six per cent rent increase, Unless they
have recent approvalfrom the Resid-
ential Tenancy Commission for a
higher increase. ••
Retail Sales Tax
The Temporary •retail sales tax
program • introduced last fall will
expire June 30, 1981, as scheduled.
• This program provided retail sales tax
exemptions on certain building mater-
ials, furniture and major appliances,
and a rebate of sales tax paid on
• purchases of light trucks and vans. As
• announced in the Treasurer's 1981
Budget, the delivery period for house-
hold furniture will be extended to
September 30, 1981. Delivery period
for all other categories !under the
program will remain unchanged.
Other Matters
r Legislation overhauling the Ontario
Human Rights Code has been liven
second reading, and is now before the
committee for clause -by -clause study.
Under new legislation, • Ontario
workers laid off in plant shutdowns
will receive a week's severance pay
for every year of service. Employees
with five year's service will apparently
be eligible for severance pay up .to a
half year's salary. The legislation will
apply only to companies with fifty or
more employees.
Lucknow couple tours Europe
Russell (Buster): and Mab-
• el Whitby have just returned'
frdm another Euopean trip.
• As well as visiting the
numerous relatives, includ-
ing new arrivals, since the
previous visit, niece Hayley
(2%) and nephew David (1).
Highlights of the three weeks
were a week at Cattolica in
Italy with sister, Betty and
her husband, Maurice (who
visited Lucknow in 1972) and
a week's caravanning, based
at Pevensey in the County Of
Sussex, on the South Coast of
England, 'with Mabel's moth-
er, sister Jeati, her husband,
John and son Paul (who came
• last year). •
During the week in Italy
the nearby resorts of Ric-
• cione and Rimini (which was
recaptured by •Canadian
troops in 1944) were visited.
There are several war cemet-
eries in the area - British,
Greek and Commonwealth.
Russell, with his. Legion
interests, endeavoured to
visit the two where Canadian
graves are located. The
beautiful cemetery at Grad-
ara, on a hillside facing the
castle was visited as part of a
panoramic coach tour, the
high standard of care tend-
ered upon the graves being
noted. Unfortunately this
was not the cemetery con-
taining the graves of some of
Rusiell's former mates and it
was not found possible to
include the second cemetery

with an open air meal of local
