The Bruce chapter of the Multiple Sclerosis Society of Canada will be conducting its ' MS Carnation Day_Cam- paign here the week of May 4th to 9th. The thrust of the campaign is > twofold One objective is to raise funds to support services for those who have this desvastating disease and to support re- search that will ultimately ,. wipe out MS. The other objective is perhaps more subtle, but just as important;' to remind us of the thous- ands of Canadians who live bravely with multiple scler- osis day after' day.. "Residents of Lucknow can all . be beautiful`people this week by wearing carna- tions. This years -campaign slogan is: "Ws a beautiful way to help fight multiple sclerosis," said Margaret Bannerman, campaign chair- person. S Multiple sclerosis is a pot- entially crippling disease of the central nervous ,„system affecting an estimated 35,000 Canadians. It is most tom- ” mon neurological disease of young adttlts. It may cause eyesight to fail, hands to shake, legs to become so C weak that standing and walk- ing are impossible: Hut the MS people are fighters. They. try not to let their illnessstop them " from working' and raising their families. They are important involved com- munity members. To do ' this they need a little help from the rest of us. The help can be official in terms' of providing transpor- tation for the disabled, acces- sible buildings and ramped sidewalks. Or help ' can be personal such as not letting a disability stand in the way of • a job offer. It can also be direct such as contributing to the MS Carnation .,Day Cam- ' paign with 'a donation or volunteer time. When you see the small boxes of carnation symbols in local stores this week `reach into your pocket, then reach out and help'. • • L.UCKNOW PRESBYTERIAN CHURCH Rev° Wm° Mumihaw B.A. M. blv: •, :SUNDAY, MAY 3. 11 a.m.: Combined Services Church and Sunday School.
