After the high winds on the
first ' weekend , in April
several farms ,throughout
the area had flocks - of white
• whisttling' " swans land : and
stay for awhile on° their Way ,
north. Apparently they were
travelling along the
Mississippi:flyway'f and! the
-south " winds . gave
them an ,extra boost. The
flock nearest to Ripley
reported. was at the Tarin of

Back in;the 1940's a.flock of
snow ..geese was apparently
blown off their 'southward
migration in he fall and
landed ' at the ;'' northeast
Ripley. Here in the field
which is no the nortit,end of
William Street they -stayed
for' 'a couple of days' rest.
With• their snow white bodies
and jet black wing'tips they
were;•a beautiful sight ,when
flying. Ant, doubt those.
fortunate enough to see' those
flocks of swans'feltmuch the
same way.
Returned last week
Donnie Fludder who has
been in Kincardine hospital
fait week was home last
Thurs day evening, On Fri-
day his wife Carol` drove him
to University Hospital " in
London for further consulta-
tion. They returned home the
same day. At present Donnie
is waiting for an appoint-
ment at University Hospital
or further tests.

Good Friday and the next
weekend is Easter. It is
rather late this, =year"

Victory parades field
Last Sunday afternoon
from; two to three -thirty was
the time'for the last public
skating' on the ice .: in.. the
Ripley Huron and, District.
Community Centre. The date
was Sunday, Aprii`12, 1981. -
Victory parades headed by
the Ripley Fire Truck, star-
ting at the Complex and
heading down Ripley's`main;
street followed by a number
of cars were'held last week.'
These parades are held after
a team has won a champion-
ship. After 11 p.m. on Mon-
day and Tuesday of ' last.
week, April 6 : and 7' such

are now getting ready for.
their Achievement Night. It.
will be, held in the Ripley
District High School and
takes the . form of a fashion
show starting at 7 p.m. on
Apr. 29. Here the girls will
model the skirts and other
articles made by
themselves. The public is in-
vited to come and see it. The
leaders are Annetta Robin-
son
obinson and Fran Farrell.

In that nice spring weather
last Thursday Bill Robertson
of Toronto drove up to Ripley
for the first visit since the
coming of snow last fall.On,
his way here he stopped to
visit his cousin Wildon
Robertson of Bluevale and
foriner native • of the fourth
concession west in Huron
township. Wildon is now in a
nursing home north of,
Wingham, Among those in
this area Bill visited were

Home from'Florida
Recently Mr. and Mrs. Bill
Tranter returned to their
home in Ripley from a vaca-
tion in Florida.
On ;Sunday morning Mrs.
Helen Hunt of Kincardine
called to say that her ,niece
Mrs. Evelyn MacDonald of
London had just called from
Clearwater Beach in Florida
telling that they had watched
the successful launching of
the space shuttle early in the:
morning. She said that it was
a beautiful morning down
there - bright sunshine and a
temperature of 82 degrees..
Outside ` here a chilly raw
east wind was blowing with a
temperature of 41 degrees.
Mrs. Hunt)._ daughter of the
late Mr. and Mrs. Bert Gray?
is a graduate nurse, having
trained in Victoria Hospital
in London. She is a, niece, of
Mrs. Belle Henry. Also Mr.
and Mrs. Leslie Wardell are
cousins. And she knows the
Reids Corners area having
spent her summer vacations
at the Wardell farm on the
fourth concession west: in
Huron township ' as a young
girl.
