The Ripley Agricultural
Society held its two annual
sprind raisingevents in
the past two weeks. They
were ` the annual spring:

cert held last Friday even
ing, ` April 3 in , the Huron
hall in Ripley.
The new presidentof the
Ripley' Agricultural Society,
John Gamble, called to supp-
ly thedetails. -
For the dance it was a
"sell out" crowd in atten-
dance. Bob Forster and Jack
Farrell who were in charge
of the ticket sales and their
helpers had doneea good job
getting the tickets out.
The two lucky winners of
the two half pork carcasses
were Gordon Cameron of
Pine River and Vernon
Hodgins just east of Bervie.
Last Friday evening there
were several events taking
place hence the attendance
was not so great. Those at-
tending had a chance to see
the Ripley Junior Farmers
stage their current play
"Murder Pattern". Earlier
in March" it was awarded
first placein the Bruce Coun-
ty Junior Farirlers Drama
Festival held in Paisley and
this coming Saturday it' will
again be staged at Western
1 University up on the hill in
north London.
Here it will compete with
eleven other plays for pro-
vincial honours. Directors
are Mr. Peter. Woodall of the
high school staff in Ripley
and Mrs. Daniels of Tiver-
ton.
In addition to the play a
variety program was
presented as follows - Lor-
rie Gibson and Debbie
Lowry; Ron Rock singing;
Joy McLean accordion,
e Mitchell dancing;
`-Anne McCosh readings;
Allister MacKay and Gerry ,
McLeod piano; and Ian
Culbert piano.

Junior. Farmers and all
those taking. part _in the
variety program. They were
then served lunch in the hall
basement by the ladies.
The neat monthly meeting
of the Ripley, Agricultural
Society will be next Monday
evening April 13 at eight in
the high school cafeteria.

Back Home
Last Wednesday Mrs. Jen-
nie McLean . was able to
return to her home in Ripley
after. 13 days in Kincardine
and District Hospital.
She looks much improved
in health. In her Deth year.
she gets around in her home
and is always cheerful. She
says that the doctors and
nurses at the hospital were
kind and good to her and she
thanks therm.
Also the same goes to
those who visited her, sent
cards and flowers. Always a
lover of nice house plants she
has several potted plants on
display in her windows
which she brought home.
Ripley folks are glad to see
'her back.
Fire Calls
The • Ripley Firemen
answered two calls during
the last pmt of the week.
Last Thursday afternoon
around three they were call-
ed to the cottage of Vaughn
Munro at the foot of the 8tt1
concession down the hill at
Bruce Beach. Here a grass
fire was brought under con -
to). w .
On Sunday evenings . 5,
at : fifteen "minutes after
seven, the fire whistle sound-
ed loud and clear on the chil-
ly air . and ° soon:. ;-the trucks
were headed Straight north
on the 15th.
Out at the farm of Mr. and
Mrs. Don Reid on the north
east boundary a chimney
fire had broken out. Perhaps
the high winds started it
"from the fireplace according
to reports. They soon ex-
tinguished it.

A package of fresh baking
soda is ahandy thing to have
around in case of such fires.
Thrown into the fire or stove
itgives off carbon dioxide
gas to smother the flames.

meeting in Paisley last
Thursday evening George
McLean and Doug Liddle
represented the Ripley
Firemen. The " Mutual Aid.
meets each month in a dif-
ferent place and includes all
the fire departments in
Bruce County
Auction
Last Thursday was a nice
spring day as auctioneers
Grant McDonald and.
Wallace Ballagh held the
clearing auction sale for
I Oliver ; and Marion
McCharles at their farm on
86 Highway at the end of the
15th south of Ripley.
In keeping with the nice
day the folks attending
responded, with brisk bid-
ding.
Earlier in the week friends
and neighbours gathered at.
the farm to give Oliver a
hand at getting the things
ready. Among those helping
were Bob Macintosh, Ron
Brooks, Russ Phillips. Russ.
Ritchie, Andrew Barkwell,
Frank Van Diepenbeek, and
the brothers Dave, Harold
and Kenny Elphick.
Folks wish Marion and
Oliver well in .their new
home in Kincardine at 511
Huron Terrace. Among their
new neighbours are several
who are no strangers to the
Ripley area people.
During the first part of last
week three " people from
Ripley underwent surgery in
Kincardine and District
Hospital. They were Rob
Rock,Mrs. Margaret
(Frank) Scott, and Miss
Noreen MacDonald. All are
reported at this time On the
road to recovery.
Harold Courtney of Ripley
and Pine River is in
University Hospital, London
Donnie Fludder is back in
Kincardine and District
Hospital after being home
briefly.
John Fludder is back home
with his wife Jan, and
children Dawn and Brad
recuperating at their home
on William Street. Neigh-
bours Mr. and Mrs. Bob
Duvall brought John home a
week ago from University
Hospital in London. II
Ab Wylds received' from
Floyd Stanley a coloured
post card showing Paradise
Beach in Barbados, West
Indies. During the week of
the March school break,
Floyd, his wife Lynne, son
Deane, and daughter Kerry
enjoyed .a . relaxing week in
the sun of Barbados.
He says that the weather

enjoyed receiving the
newspaper news from home.
They willbe moving back to.
their home in . Ripley next
August. Presently Floyd is
on sabbatical leave from the
Ripley Huron Central School
and taking courses in.
Toronto leading to a further
degree ine ducation.
During the past winters
seYeral folks from this area
have taken their winter
vacation " in Barbados. One
who has repeatedly been
there is Bobby Robertson of
the nth. Concession in
Huron .Township. Former
teacher . at the Ripley
District High School, Reuben
Burnett of Pine River is a
native of the island of
Barbados and his brother is
one of the top officials in the
Barbadian Department of
Education.

funeral service for . her
brother-in-law Jack
McLaurin in Kincardine and
they called in Ripley to visit
her sister Fran Wylds.
Mr: Rob Rock of Fordwich
is recuperating at the home
of his parents. Mr. and Mrs.
Oraen Rock following
surgery at the Kincardine
and District Hospital,

Shantz enjoyed a weekend.
