Lucknow Branch # 309 of
the Royal Canadian,Legion is.
making final preparations for
the celebrations of their 40th
anniversary to be held on
Saturday evening, 'April 4 at
the Legion Hall.
Prior to the 'formation of
the local branch, a number of
1st War Veterans from Luck
now and area were members
of `` the Wingham legion.
These men were instrument-
al in arranging for the fust
organizational meeting.
which was held on November
22, 1940.
Harold Allin was appoint-
ed chairman of this meeting
and Allister \\ Hughes was
elected ' as the first branch
president. All the " original
charter members are since
deceased. Application ` for a
charter was made to Provin-
cial Command on January 6,
1941 and the Charter was
approved and issued to be
effective on' the 30th of
January, 1941.
The 40th anniversary cele-
bration will include a ban-
quet .for all present branch
members and their guests:
March 2nd to .8th is Can-
ada's first
an-ada's.first National Nutrition
Week. This year the theme is
Energy Balance: Energy In
= Energy Out.
With the numerous labour-
saving devices availableto-
day, few Canadians lead a
really active life. It takes a
conscious effort to ensure
that ` your energy intake
• (food) equals your energy
output (activity and exer-
cise). When this balance is
disturbed by either too much"
food, too little exercise or
both, overweight will be the
eventual outcome.
It does not take much for
the balances to• be tipped
\towards weight gain. If you
eat just one potato chip (10
calories) a day more than you
use throughacticity you can.
u' gain one pound in;`a year.
Avoid those extra pounds
that can creep upon you by
keeping your, energy balanc-
ed. Remember there are two
sides to the energy story: the
amount you eat and, : the
amount you . usel: Here are
some hints to help, you keep.
Shriners raise money
The main feature of the even-
ing will be a summary of the
history of Branch. 309 from
the time of its formation to
the present. `There will also
be special recognition of all
the branch presidents who
held a term of office during
this . period. The entertain-
' ment will conclude with a
social time of reminiscing
and dancing.

Limit hours spent in front
of the TS.Instead, get
moving: 1
— Park your car at the
farthest end of the lot.
Take the stairs instead of
the elevator.
—, Walk, jog or cycle instead
of driving short distances.
- Keep these foods on hand
so you will get good food.,
value for the. calories,you
at: cheese and crackers,
raw fruits and vegetables,
juice and milk,.
and
Minimize, use of high
sugar, high fat items like;
butter, margerine, sweets
fried foods;
—;If you eat out look for the
lower calorie choices on
the menu: muffin instead
danish, milkor 'ince in-

stead of a milk shake, plain
foods instead of foods with
rich sauces or gravy.
Balancing your energy to-
day is easier than losing
those extra pounds a few
years down the road. So why
not start right now?.
