Maggie , and Pierre, the
smash hit play starrring=Linda
Griffiths, will Make one of its
fewappearances outside
Canada's big cities . when it
plays at Blyth Memorial
Hall, Friday, Saturday and
Sunday, April 10, 11 and 12.
Miss Griffiths' tender tel-
ling of the ill-fated love story
of a. middle-aged Prime
• •Minister and a young flower
,child of the sixties has been a
hit , from : Montreal to' • Van-
couver. Keith Ashwell in the
Edmonton Journal sure med
it up: "Astens of thousands
of theatre -goers from coast to
coast have determined, the
show and the lady perform-
ing it are just great!"
A play about the.over-pub-
licized controversial , marri-
age • of the Prime Minister
and his wife seemed to be the.
last- thing the country needed
in late 1979 but when Maggie
and Pierre opened at Theatre
Passe Muraille in Toronto,
people knew that this was
more than a sensational view
of a famous couple. Miss
Griffiths, working with direc-
for Paul Thompson, dug
deeper and ended' with a
stunning portrait, sometimes
funny, often touching, of the
most famout couple in Can-
ada. Along the way they also
manage to say a lot about the
Canadian people who watch-
ed
atch-ed• the :couple's story unfold..
The . play recently won
awards for the best new ,play
and .best performanceon the
(Toronto theatre seen in
1980.
Miss Griffiths alternates
from onecharacter to anoth-
er with amazing 'skill as she
portrays •both Maggie and
Pierre. A third character,
Henry the reporter,• looks at
the marriage from theout-
side and at the public's
fascination .with it.,
Until now Maggie and
Pierre has been performed
only in the nation's largest
theatrical centres. It comes
to Blyth through the long
co-operative association of
the Blyth Summer Festival
and Theatre Passe-Muraille.
Performances will be at 8'
p.m. on Friday and Saturday

such a sound agreement so quickly.
Barrie urged other farmers who had taken
out extended health insurance on a pay
direct basis from Co-operative Health Ser-
vices to investigate, the OFA's progr m.
"The rates are much lower, the benefits
are excellent, and it'sbacked by a company
that is financially sound," he said.
Barrie said the OFA wouldbe contacting,
each of its subscribers by mail as soon as
possible to advise of the minor changes in
the plan.
