their home at Tamarac in
Florida.. According , to
reports Francis and
Margaret ' Gemmell C who
have had the home rented for
a couple of months will
continue to live with Don and
Anna to the end of, February
when they will change to
other quarters.

Ripley, minister of Knox
Presbyterian Church 'in
Ripley and also of Ashfield
Presbyterian Church in. the
Lochalsh 'area, took . the
morning service in St.
Andrews Presbyterian
Church.: in Wingham, last
Sunday. Folks in this area.
w°ere able to listen to this
service ' as -it was broadcast
"live" from the church by
the .*Ingham radio station
C.K N.X.
It. was " nice to hear Mr.
Nugenttalk as he spoke with
his clear sounding voice. The
service fitted into the
dotted radio hour. from
° eleven to noon. He was able
to finish the closing
benediction and 'a few notes
from the church organ were
heard before . the, twelve
o'clock switch over to the
next scheduled program at
the radio station.
Visiting home
Miss Sherry Pollock, R.N.,
who works . at the Queen
Street Mental Health Centre
in Toronto, . was home with
'her parents Wally and
Elaine . Pollock for . the
weekend before leaving for
short' vacation in Mexico,
Her sister Joanne was ' in
Quebec City recently at-
tending the Winter Carnival
there.

were . Mr. and Mrs.. Spence
Irwin of Lucknow and Mr.
and Mrs. Doug Young of the
Shepparton area, Ashfield
Township.
Passed away
Mrs. Jean Pollock. of
Kincardine received the
news of ': the death of . her
brother-in-law Gurney
Pollock in England. Born
October' 4, 1922, Gurney was
in his 59th year. He is sur-
vived by his wife Rose, two
'sons Ba �, y and, Glen in
Redruth, Cornwall County in
"South West England. Also he
is survived by two brothers
Carman of Ottawa and,
Howard ' of Torof ito and one
sister Marie, Mrs. Aubrey
Langdon of Clinton and, a
sister-in-law Mrs. Jean.
Pollock of Kincardine.
Gurney waspredeceased by
`his parents Mr. and Mrs. S.
Wesley Pollock ; and.: one

Redruth' on
Saturday,. January 24, 1981
and the funeral > and burial
was held there . on January
29.
Gurney was raised onthe
family farm on the .12th
Concession. of Huron
township, the third farm
'west of the 15th corner and.
on the north side of the 12th.
Gurney attended SS No, ,3
public school on the 15th then
the . Ripley Continuation
School. Next he enlisted in
the Canadian , Army. He
served overseas all through
Italy 1 and Wesstern Europe
returning home hi 1945.
Shortly Gurney returned to
England . where .he was in
charge of a garage staff at a
large London hotel until a
few years ago. Ill health a
few years ago forced him to

bered in the Ripley area as a
hockey player eon Ripley's
good junior team. with such
players as Bill and Huffy
Harris, Jack Bowers, Keith
McCormick, Harry Lindsay,
Nelson Hodgins and others.
Sympathy is extended to all
the family, and relatives at
this time ofbereavement.
Craft show
Looking ahead the Ripley
Craft Show will be held as
usual on the last Friday and
Saturday in . July, namely
July 24 and 25. Hopefully all
this snow will be long gone
and forgotten by that time.

Jimmy Smith died last
Thursday, February -5 in the
Pinecrest Nursing. Home in
Lucknow. He was in bis,97th

he lived in the big house
between the Armoury
building and the Shewfelt
Grocery store.
Well the past week has
been a week to remember
her a Snow ,storms like last
Wednesday afternoon when,
Ripley's main street looked
like one in Siberia.. especially
nt night. Then the fire
whistle sounding at night.
And late last Friday af-
ternoon the Siren of the,
ambulance waking up the
place with its blasts as it
raced to the scene of a high-
way accident east of Ripley
on the road to Holyrood..Out
at the Kinloss Central Public
school; 85 students, ,:some
from the school itself and
some from Lucknow, stayed
sheltered till 9:30 ' 'to 10
o'clock when the, buses were
again able to go. Mrs.
Audrey MacDonald of Ripley
is the principal there.
Variety concert
A variety concert and
dance was held on Friday
evening in the Huron
Township Hall in Ripley.
Mrs, J. McLean was the
chairlady for the program..
There was a fair attendance.
It seems 'that with all these
storms many prefer not to
risk driving after night. The
program and dance was by
