By James Friel
Councillor Ab Murray declined to put
himself up as a candidate for reeve when
asked to before the municipal election 'n
November, stating he didn't have enou h
time to do justice tct the municipality and
run his business at the same time.
But he ended up agreeing to devote a
Targe amount of time in any case, taking up
responsibilities on four municipal commit-

Murray will be on the hydro, arena, fire
and sanitation committees.
Reeve Herb Clark will be on the roads
committee, the medical center representa-
tive and will be primarily responsible for
village finances. The other experienced
member of council, Councillor Eldon
Mann, is also on roads, arid will be looking
after water and recreation..

business capacity,he could appoint one of
his employees ,to submit estimates for
tenders. Council felt that would deal with
any conflict of interest concerns.

will take on library cornmitee duties and
will work with Murray on both the hydro
and fire boards.
The committees are:

Hall given for dance
By James Friel
The Lucknow Boy Scouts requested
use of the top floor of the town 'hall for a
dance on Dec. 21. The request was
granted by council at the regular
meeting Dec. 10. •
`Bruce Colwell attended council to
explain the dance would for 11-15' year
olds and that an admission of $.75
would be charged. Colwell said the
dance would take place between 7:30
p.m. to 12.
He expects between 40-50 youngsters. -
at the . meeting, too many ' to enable
organizers to hold the event in the
basement of the town hall.
He answered that the group does not
expect to make a profit, thereby enab-
/ling it to request the room for free, after
Reeve Herb Clark asked Colwell about
the admission fee.
"That's to pay for the pop and
chips," said the Scout leader.
Cheque awaited
Clerk -treasurer Bertha Whitcroft an-
nounced that the second half of a grant
from the Ministry of Housing and Muni-
cipal Affairs for a bookkeeping altera-
tion could be expected.
Ministry representative Jim Curry
from their Guelph office, recently
visited the town office to see that the
system was operating correctly.
The visit was part of the grant
process. The municipality received half
of the grant of $5,000 at the outset Qf the
change and will now receive the second
half of $2,500.
"Part of the system's requirements is
that expenditures to, date be given
council each month," said Whitcroft.
Council will be able to compare budget
figures and the actual spending being
done. '
Donations arranged
Council moved to grant donations to
the Lucknow Agricultural Society and
the Horticultural Society upon their
request in 1986.
The municipality typically donates
$500 to the agricultural society and $400
when they need the funds.
"If they want the money in June to
plant flowers then all they do is -ask for
it, ,' explained Councillor Ab Murray to
new. councillors John MacLeod , and
George Anderson.
