They leave this week for Florida for the winter months. Guests were Wayne and Judy Brooks and family of Cambridge and Sandra Brooks and friend from Toronto. Pat and Ernie Good and girls of Goderich visited at the home of Robert Purves. Also visiting the same home were Don and • Veronica . Fraser and family and Claire Steffler of Formosa. John Schlosser visited over the weekend with his brothers Charlie and Joe Schlosser 'of R. .R. 3, Walkerton. Elmo Sanderson has been home for the past week and a half due to a breakdown on • the boat. Spending the weekend in London and . 3 'w :44., • . 6 • ',*?.,,),1>:,4, visiting with relatives were Tony and Geraldine Schlosser and Mike, where they enjoyed a boat tour to Port Huron and down the ,St. . Clair River. Geraldine's nephew owns the boat and docks it at Sarnia during the boating season. Motorists should be careful of the little people who will be out trick and treating Thursday night. Mr. and Mrs. Wayne Murray are welcomed to Lucknow. They haye moved into Bill Cruimps apartment on Stauffer Street. RNs address timely issues By Nancy Elliott Greenwood "Timely issues for Bruce County Nurs- es" were addressed at a seminar of the Bruce Chapters' RN Association held Oct. 25 at Southampton. Beginning the series of five presenta- tions was Phyllis Burke, a C.A.S. worker from Owen Sound, Ms. Burke spoke on child -abuse and molestation highlighting • the . changes in provincial legislation effective October 1985. Following this, a video case study on incept was presented to the 50 nurses in attendance. Jean McCauley, RN co-ordinator of the Owen Sound General and Marine Hospit- al's Palliative Care Service; spoke on the structure and strengths of care to the terminally ill in North Bruce and •Grey Cciunties. Following distribution of clinical material on anger, cancer; and hope, she led in a case study of group work involving the nurses. Diane Barker, a Kiridardine lawyer, eloquently presented -a 'concise but illumin- ating •history 'on Law and Women in Canada, leading into het' topic /of " VVom- en's Legal lssues in the 80's".1She spoke briefly on the Women's Legal Education and Action Fund (L.E.A.F.) and outlined legislative changes since the new charter of rights. Ms. Barker received an ovation of spontaneous applause following her pres- entation. Christopher Sullivan, BSW, AdminiSt- rator-Director of the Royal Victoria Hospit- al, Barrie, addressed the nurses on Stress' and- Care for the caregivers. A practical case study evolved on , assessment of burnout, symptoms, and. problem solving • techniques in the work place followed. • "Tears are not enough" was the title of Marilyn Coffman's slide presentation on her work as an RN in Ethiopia. • As •stark ctintrasts were shown, Ms. Coffman shared her thoughts and exper- iences as a clinic nurse in a refugee canip. She daily saw third world problems such as malnutrition, leprosy; TB, pellagra, kev- oshiokor, malaria, dystentery and ,commu- nicable disease complications rarely seen in Canada. • Sponsored' by the Kingston Kinsmen's Clubs African Aid Project, Ms. Coffman worked as an unpaid volunteer with. the third Ontario team to serve in Ethiopia.
