meeting in Underwood
The Bruce County Historical Society's
Annual Meeting and Banquet was held on
Thursday, October 18 at the Bruce Town-
ship Community Centre, Underwood.
The President, Mrs. Edna Avery, wel-
comed one hundred, sixty-five guests,
friends and members. Representatives
from Historical Societies of Grey County,
Hanover and Bruce Township brought
greetings. Blanche McCulloch was pianist
fdr the evening and she accompanied the
soloist, Dianne Henkenhaf.
During the business session members
were informed of the following: The
Society has an inventory of $20,000 vyorth
of publications housed in; Maple Square
Mall, Port Elgin. Executive meetings are
held their monthly on the second Tuesday.
The Brucetounty Historical Society hasa
•central mailing address - Box 1900, Port
Elgin, Ontario, NOG 2C0 to which all
correspondence should be directed. No
society is successful without active mem-
bers and to encourage interest and partici-
pation the members of the B.C.H.S..
receive a 74 page Yearbook and quarterly
newsletters. There are general meetings in
various communities and usually a bus
trip. Anyone interested in joining or
helping please use the above box number.
The operating account had. a balance of
$6,638.00 as of 'September 30, 1985.
During an intermission lucky prizes were
presented to Margaret Ann Rutherford,
Barb Ribey, Barbara Farquhar and John
Simms.
Claus Breede, Curator of .the Huron.
County Museum, presided over the elec-
tion of the Executive and Committees for
1986. The Executive and Committee
members are: Past President - Malcolm

1985.
The members of' the Bruce County
Historical Society were advised thatdueto
new government regulations it is necessary
for the B.C.H.S. to be incorporated. This
can be done through affiliation with The
Ontario Historical Society but a revised
constitution is needed. One has been
drafted by the O.H.S. and copies of it were
given to members. This will be dealt with
at the general meeting in •May.
Claus Breede explained the progress
being made toward the proposed Centre of
Canadian Furniture at the Krug Furniture
;Co. in Chesley. The attending members
voted to support this concept of the project
which, upon completion, would be a living
museum, dedicated to the production of
traditional• furniture. The Krug Furniture
Co. will celebrate its centennial in 1986 and
Bruce and Inward Krug, members of the
B.C.H.S.,. are. active in the company
business.
The guest speaker was Mr. Lindsay
Thornburn, who, with the assistance of his
wife operating the film projector, gave a
capsule study of the Holy Land and Egypt.
He explained the evolution of the people
and their diverse beliefs; all the, time
giving a travelogue of the wonders of the
area. The Thornburns' presentation gave a
new and graphic insight into the, Mid -East.
crisis.
