Bible verse for rollcall
Unit 3
The leader of Unit 3, Mrs. Charles
McDonald, welcomed all the members to
the meeting in the church Fellowship
room. She read a poem, Wild Geese in
' Flight, followed by the LT.C.W. Purpose.
Hymn 52 was sung. The secretary's and
treasurer's reports were given and 20
members answered the rollcall with a bible
verse on Thanksgiving. Happy birthday
was sung to Mts. M. MacGillivray, Mrs, J.
Arnold and Mrs. C. Greer. Wedding
anniversary congratulations wne to Mrs. J.
Arnold and Mrs. H. Webster.
Mrs. A. Hackett gave .a paper on
Stewardship on educating and training
workers for overseas missions. The Friend-
ship secretary, Mrs. Greer gave her report
of cards sent and visits made. Mrs.
MacGillivrayreported six quilts have been
given to the local health unit and three
mere- are being readied for future need.
-Mrs. V. Hunter gave an excellent report of
her day spent in the newly opened home
for women and children in'Goderich. The
box for food donations for this home will be
• at the churdi entrance. Orders were taken
for our church calendar. The presentation
of our church history book was on October
4 at 8 p.m.
Mrs. McDonald thanked the women who
had helped enteftain the residents of.
Pinecrest in September. She added to the
list of helpers and food donations for our
anniversary fowl supper upcoming; The
C. G.I.T. invites•all the women to their tea
Odober 19 from 2 •- 4 p.m.
MM. Don Carneron read the scripture
from Psahn 100. The meditation was given
by Mrs..Williarn Humphrey. She said we
need teopen our minds andlearts to God's
blessings: Mrs. V. Hunter and Mrs. M.
MacGillivrary read poems on Thanksgiv-
ing. All enjoyed a vocal solo "Count Your
Blessings", by Mrs. Symon de Boer,
accompanied by Mrs. H. Webster.
Mrs. G. Kirkland brought A :number of
• Photos of her nephew, who is on mission
work in Korea and his Korean wife and
four children. While lunch was being
served Mrs. C. Greer conducted an oral
bible contest.
Unit 4
Unit 4 of Lucknow United Church
Women met on October1 with a,n
attendance of 21 members and three
visitors; Mrs. Gordon Johnstone, Mrs..
Donald Matthews and Mrs. Bob Campbell
were in charge of the program.
Mrs. Johnstone presided and read the
scripture with the theme, Thanksgiving. A
paper entitled, The Great Gift, was read by
Mrs. Matthews and. Mrs. Bob, ruilay. Mrs.
Jack Treleaven closed the worship service
with prayer. . •
A very pleasing vocal duet was given by
Mrs. Raynard Ackert and Mrs. Harvey
Houston with piano accompaniment by
Mrs. -Harvey Webster. A Korean Folk Tale
was read by Mrs. Bob Campbell.
Mrs. Johnstone presented an article
about a missionary couple, Dr. and Mrs.
Ian Robb of Korea. It described the four
• stages of mission activity, how it applied to
• Dr. Robb's work in Korea and how the
• Korean people have taken over the work
started by the missionaries. 'The ladies
were divided into groups and the mission-
ary article discussed.
Mrs. Bob Campbell .presided for the
business; reading a poem, Just for Today.
The rollcall was answered with a current
event. •
Mrs. Gordon Cayley presided at the
• piano for the hymns and Mrs. Ken
Cameron was secretary in the absence •of-
-Mrs. Jim Boyle.
The treasurer's report was given by Mrs.
Ken Cameron; Mrs. Stuart Collyer report-
ed for citizenship; Mrs. Charlie Davies for
supply and welfare; Mrs. Gordon Cayley
for amnesty and Mrs. A. J. Wilson for the
flower committee.
The coming turkey banquet was discus-
sed with requests made for workers and
food donations.
Limch and a social time followed.
• HWTA discusses education
• Education today , was the main topic of
discussion at the September meeting of the
Huron Women Teachers' Association
(HWTA), held in Holmesville.
• Guest speaker for the evening was
IEleanor Stewart of the Public Relation Ser-
• vices, Federated • Women Teachers'
Association of Ontario in Toronto.
She spoke about the increasing complex-
ities .of educating youth and cited examples
showing the growth of violence, the number
of children with problems and the litigious
• nature of society todaY, •
The meeting focussed on issues such as
Excellence in Education, this year's theme,
and Bill 30, regarding joint funding of
separate schools.

In attendance were HWTA executive
Members, convenors and key teachers who
represent each of the public elementary
schools in Huron County.
They addressed a variety of concerns in-
cluding finance, sponsorship of courses, up-
coming conferences and the donation of a
freezer to Survival Through Friendship
House in Goderich. •
