School has begun for another year with ToD R
361 students in attendance. There are 14
classrooms, two of which are portables D
where Grade 5 classes are held. Mrs.
Sheila Clarke came on staff to teach Grade
2 and Mrs. Laura Scott is half time in
Grade 5 while Mrs. Pat Allen, one Grade 5 • ••••
teacher, teaches Primary Phys, Ed. in the.
afternoons. The remedial and special
. 'education classroom in the 'school is
shared by Mr. Al Sygrove (Grade.4 to 8 and
• Grade 7-8 Phys. Ed, and Mrs. Mary Bere,
Kindergarten to Grade 3, Kindergarten is
taught by Mrs. Nancy Cameron and the se-
cond Kindergarten class by Mrs. Janet
Blanchette, with Ann Alton as teacher's
) aid. Miss Judy Mathers is new on staff
teaching Grade 1.

- On Thursday afternoon Don Tremeer, Al
Sygrove and Mary Bere • attended a
meeting of Special Education teachers at
Victoria School, chaired by. Paul Carroll,
Superintendent.
The. Volunteer Program at Brookside
will start officially in October and a letter
regarding this will be going out. If anyone
who does not have children at school is in-
terested in 'volunteering, please contact
Mrs. Mary Bere, Volunteer Co;orditiator..
There is a'varietyof ways in which
volunteercan help the children and
teachers to their mutual benefit. •
Mrs. Sheila Clarke attended a Meeting
on puppetry: Kids on the Block, at the
'board office on Thursday afternoon. .
Miss Judy Withers and Mrs. Laura Scot;
were al -hong the 'new teachers recognized
at a meeting for new •teachers at the board
office on Wednesday .afternoon. ,
Hunting on some MCVA properties
The majority of propertiesowned and
.managed by the Maitlarid' Valley Con-'
Servation Authority .are open to hunting,
withtheir expressed permission.
However, in order to reduce any poten-
tial conflicting uses, the Maitland Valley
. Conservation Authority prohibits hunting
at those areas where other land use ac-
tivities have been promoted.
